And now for something I’m pretty sure nobody ever asked for - the original Postal is getting a remake and it’s coming to both PC and PlayStation 4 this year. The former is getting it as soon as this Spring, remastering the controversial twin-stick shooter with updated visuals, remastered audio, updated gameplay and a new score-attack Rampage mode wherein players are challenged with racking up quick consecutive kills.
Both Postal and its sequel were a bit of guilty pleasure of mine when I was about ten years old, but I don’t remember them actually being good games, and the teaser trailer for Postal Redux does little to rectify this. Still, if you’re after a dose of total carnage then this could be your bag, and games like this with a certain degree of notoriety certainly seem to attract a decent audience.
Running With Scissors founder Vince Desi remains upbeat though, saying “Postal Redux is a love letter to our fans. Even with all the noise surrounding Postal, gamers focused on the experience, playing the game by the millions, giving it great user reviews and helping us not only survive, but flourish." So there you have it, well good on you Vince.
Developer Running With Scissors tout “modernised gameplay”, but you can quite clearly see in the trailer the isometric perspective is just a little ‘off’. It was okay 20 years ago but I think I’d be loathe to play through it again now.
Incidentally we’ve got some Postal system requirements if you’re interested, and as expected these are the extremely light end of the PC gaming hardware spectrum. Only the minimum is given, but don’t expect anything more demanding than a run-of-the-mill dual-core processor and a low-end graphics card to run Postal Redux.
Postal Redux Minimum System Requirements
- OS: Windows Vista 32-bit
- CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core E5400 2.7 GHz or AMD Athlon II X2 220 5 GHz
- GPU RAM: 1GB Video Memory
- GPU: GeForce GT 520 or Radeon HD 6450
- HDD: 5 GB Available Space
- DX: DirectX 10
Will you be going Postal come Spring? Or are your slaughtering days behind you?
