Forza Motorsport 6: Apex Is Coming To PC As A Windows 10 Exclusive Free-To-Play Racer

Their Windows 10 Store might be a bit of a joke for gamers at this early stage, but you can’t fault Microsoft for finally making good on its promise to commit to us PC gamers. Following swiftly in the footsteps of the Quantum Break reveal, Microsoft has announced Forza Motorsport 6: Apex edition will be coming to PC.

Microsoft hosted a secretive media event on February 25th, news of which was under embargo, but the Seattle Times looks to have swatted this aside and broke the news regardless. During the event Microsoft reportedly said it planned to shift away from growing an Xbox business built primarily for its consoles, but towards both console and PC gaming, going so far as to actively encourage its studios to build games for both platforms.

"We are 100 percent committed to the PC-gaming space," said Xbox boss Phil Spencer. "That is a long-term commitment from us."

Interestingly Forza Motorsport 6: Apex won’t be quite the same as the version coming to Xbox One, but will instead be a free-to-play product. Microsoft tout is a slimmed down version, which sets a few alarm bells ringing.

Whatever the case, the prospect of potentially playing Forza 6 at 4K resolution / 60 frames per second is a mouth-watering idea. It’s just a shame it’s taken Microsoft until the sixth iteration to finally see the light.

While we’ve got no confirmation from Microsoft just yet, it goes without saying that Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is once again a DX12-powered Windows 10 Store exclusive. Despite the litany of problems with the Windows Store, it looks as if it’s here to stay.

Forza on PC at long last, are you in? Would you prefer a full retail Forza over a F2P version? Let us know what you think!

Should mention, this isn't actually a good thing. We're getting a watered down Forza Motorsport 6 with barely anything resembling content; and from what I've read, and I quote: "There will be no extensive career mode, no online racing, no car upgrades, presumably no tuning, no livery editor, no storefront, no steering wheel support, and little in the way of single player or online progression." - from a credible source, too.

Well it IS free. In my book anything free is a good thing. Nobody is saying you have to download it.

If you don't know it's free to play and any game that is ever free to play it is never good

So basically it would just be a single player arcade racer with no progression?

I'll pass.

Main franchise isn't as arcade, and doesn't have free roam.

Horizon is more arcadey, but when u enable simulation mode it's almost the same as motorsport.

Damn I'm a bigger fan of Free Roam than actually Circuit races, because in Horizon 2, there's the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 which is my favorite car ever.

But I've gotta say it looks damn gorgeous.

Horizon is a spin off of the Motorsport series towards a arcade game. Its same engine and simulation but its just Horizon has free roam and is more arcadey

The cars don't handle as they do in real life or at least in a pretty loyal simulation.

Well its free to play so I can't exactly complain here, a full version would have been nice though (Not that we need it since Project CARS and Asseto Corsa are superior games in every right and they are available on steam)

I'd have much preferred a full retail version in truth. And preferably of Forza Horizon 2 rather than Motorsport. But hey ho, at least it's a start.

Free 2 Try and Pay 2 Win?

Or will it actually be a Free 2 Play?

I hate it when they think a demo, or a part of the game with limited access is considered Free-to-play. It's disgusting marketing.

A bit disappointing that is going to be a free to play title but I can't complain. I have always wanted to play forza on PC.

First of all: Free2Play NEVER goes well. It may start fine, but there's definitely going to be some gamebreaker later on. Keep in mind: This is Microsoft we're talking about.

And secondly, yes I would've liked to see a full Forza 6 for PC without the Win10-only crap.
I have considered my options and: Microsoft are being dicks when it comes to Windows 10.
Also Windows 10 is not even a finished OS yet. It's a patchwork on all seams and ends.
I will NOT switch Win 7 for an unfinished OS.

First of all the OS you guys "Tout" so much is outdated, hardware can only be supported for so long. so get up with the times.

Secondly, while the F2P is not good an idea, there is a super high chance that horizons will come to PC too.

^Agreed,on a side note, there are F2P games that actually "work",Tera:Rising is one of them, great MMORPG with no limitations on the F2P side, while giving the subscribing/paying players the opportunity to buy some items(that you can obtain by playing) for less or just by gifting them.So it's not all bad.
