System Requirements For DOOM Beta Are A Step Up From The Closed Alpha

System Requirements Optimum 1080p PC Build Low vs Ultra Screenshots GPU Performance Chart CPU List That Meet System Requirements GPU List That Meet System Requirements

You might think you know DOOM's system requirements since they were revealed for the alpha last year. Well think again. id's frenetic shooter is back with a bang for the beta test. If you haven't seen the trailer yet I advise you wrap your eyes around it toot sweet. All done? Good, on with the show.

As you no doubt saw, DOOM looks absolutely, positive, blood-spatteringly glorious. All that comes at a cost though, particularly if you want to hit a liquid-smooth 60 frames per second frame rate and stand any chance in competitive play. As such the system requirements have jumped up since the DOOM Alpha. Take a deep breath, rev your chainsaw, and check out the latest official DOOM system requirements.

DOOM Beta Minimum System Requirements (720p)

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2400 3.1GHz or AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 2 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 670 or AMD Radeon HD 7870
  • HDD: 22 GB Free Hard Drive Space
  • Network: Broadband internet connection
  • Other: Steam account

DOOM Beta Recommended System Requirements (1080p)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3770 3.4 GHz or AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB RAM
  • GPU RAM: 4 GB Graphics Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290

While it's only really the graphics cards that are affected, we are seeing across the board DOOM requiring a step up from what we saw in the closed alpha. Either the performance wasn't good enough back then, or id has been adding additional graphical effects which take their toll on GPUs. So for minimum, rather than a 660 you'll need a GTX 670, or a recommended its a Radeon R9 290 rather than a 280.

Interestingly this time around we get given targeted resolutions. It's going to come as a surprise to many that the GeForce GTX 670 is only good for 720p. How times change. Rest in peace, noble 670.

As ever with id games DOOM has been built using the latest game engine, in this case id Tech 6. It's OpenGL-based so there's no DirectX 12 support, while the engine itself is locked to 60 FPS. From this we can deduce that these system requirements are good for 720p and 1080p at a locked 60 FPS respectively, although it's unclear what graphics settings.

Remember, you can always check out how well your PC can run the DOOM System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the DOOM GPU benchmark chart.

Based one the benchmarks I saw for the Alpha build, this game will run well on my card and horribly on the equivalent Nvidia hardware. Oddly enough, it should run like **** on my card, since AMD's OGL implementation doesn't support MT.

Wow, those are some steep requirements for recommended settings.

What are the chances I can play this in 1080p at high settings with my setup?

Depends what "high" settings equates to in terms of GPU load. My guess is medium-high. Quite a few games are requiring more than 2GiB VRAM now for instance.

According to these requirements no but if it is exaggerated then you might run it on low.

I'm pretty shocked I fall below the minimum 720p requirements. I always was able to play games at 1080p medium-high settings till 2016.

I think the bar was set by the new console generation, so I expect them to rise far less during the next 3-4 years

Well it's expected that there will be a new PlayStation and XBox within the next 2-3 years. That will raise overall requirements once again

oh it will last long, watching AdoredTV, Hardware Unboxed, AnandTech, JayZtwocents reviews and benchmarks of games with DX 12 shows the R9 290, 290x, 390 and 390x all jumping, the 290x and 390x in DX 12 benchmarks including the now cancelled Fable Legends showed it surpassing the GTX 980 and fighting near close to the gtx 980ti

Thank you for the information. But with DX12 incoming the visuals may improve and so the purpose of Directx, improving performance in games, won't happen. My apologies for my broken English :p.

well there will never be a card that will last forever, that is how things move on, All I am stating is not to worry about the 290x becoming old, soon Vulkan and DX12 will be picking up performance for AMD we will be fine for a couple of more years. Anywho recommended is always placing cards a small bit above than it should, if you are like me sticking with 1080p or 1440p will last you a long while

Any video card "can" last that long if it has no issues like unresponsive fans/actually breaking. In terms of "last", as in GTX 770 running games at specific visual settings, that depends on your expectations and what the software requires. GTX 770 was very fast when it originally released.

Well the 660 is a little weaker than the 7870. Maybe they just went with whichever gave them the most stable frame rate at minimum.

Still in beta so so don't know if that will be the official specs for the game cause maybe they will end up in the end go back to minimum GTX 660.
