The Division Becomes The Most Successful Launch In Ubisofts History

Simultaneously unsurprising and also kind of incredible, Ubisoft has announced Tom Clancy’s The Division has sold more copies in its first 24 hours on sale than any other game in the publisher’s history. Likewise it’s also the highest number of digital sales achieved by a Ubisoft title during launch.

The achievement is made all the more impressive by The Division being an entirely new IP (aside from having the Tom Clancy license slapped across it), which typically don’t sell as strongly as sequels. It means it’s beaten the likes of Assassin’s Creed 3, Watch Dogs, Far Cry 4, and, er, The Smurfs 2.

The launch of The Division is a tremendous achievement for Ubisoft, and demonstrates our unrivaled capacity to create fantastic new game brands and transform them into entertainment blockbusters,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly it marks the start of millions of players’ enduring engagement in The Division’s game world, which we are confident they will love.

A big thumbs up for Ubisoft on that account then, but it’s a whole different kettle of fish as to whether they deserve it. I certainly don’t feel ready to give it a definitive verdict just yet, but during the 10 or so hours I’ve spent playing The Division I’ve had a lot of fun, aided by there being heaps more to do than in the beta. It’s certainly not without its fair share of frustrating flaws though, not helped by the mixed messaging on what it is. Make no mistake this not a traditional third-person shooter but a full-blown RPG, and it took a shift in mindset to get this, at least for me.

Anyway, what do you think, does The Division deserve this record-breaking success? How are you finding your first days in the disaster zone?

After The Crew, seem like Ubisoft making The Queue with the Division!
All joke a side, the queue time is not that bad IMO

I haven't played the game yet, but I'm hearing a lot of vague negativity from different people. What's bad about it?

"Most Succsessful launch"... My internet is a strong 100/20 mb line, and I still find myself camping alone behind cover every entire mission of fear of the common issues of having to mash the R button 5-7 times before it reloads, not walking straight into enemy lines due to ****ty server "beliving" i still hold the movement keys, and of course. The fear of having to do the mission all over thanks to free disconnects.

Put that succsessful launch of yours right up where the sun dossen't shine...

Yep, 19 hours in and co-op is the way to go for this game. Have someone surpress and then flank the enemy. I love my turret gun:-)

I've played both betas and now playing a full game. I can tell that this game is something new and it's very fun. Never though that Ubisoft might make such a good and quality game. This time they didnt dissapointed me.

I never thought that The Division brings this honour to Ubisoft because its a series of Tom Clancy not a new fresh type of Game. But whatever is going on it is good for Ubisoft.

Tom Clancy is just the namesake. This is a brand new endeavour. Open-world, RPG. Its as different and fresh to other games as Splinter Cell was to Rainbow Six (yet both of them are Tom Clancy games too.)

Fresh game or IP, means it has new playstyle, game dynamics, movement, graphics engine, everything is new.

about the bullet sponges, if for instance a boss is like 10 levels above you, do you need to like shoot him in the head 20 times more than a regular enemy that's on the same level as you are?

yup, thats exactly how it works. Thats why you should focus on the missions that are on your level, rank up and then come back to complete the harder ones.

Played a few hours last night with mates and had a blast. It may be downgraded but on my system it is the best looking game so far. The controls are very slick, as is the movement. No problem matchmaking with my friends either. Only once in the 5 hours at the beginning did it lag out. No bugs or glitches so far. Can't wait to get back to it. And btw, I hate uPlay as much as the next guy.

So because the game doesn't look as good as when it was first shown you shouldn't play it? I mean, sure, it's technically product fraud and you should sue them for it but the only reason I'm not getting this game is because I don't actually like how it's done (essentially online only)

Oh okay. Well that's a completely different story. How much something is worth is up to you. Also where did you get 60 euro from? Where I am, new stuff like games are 70/80 euro

Right. Does this only apply to consoles because from what i hear its been a total bust on pc. Including the visual downgrade (which was confirmed by someone who works for Ubisoft NY). Didn't they say the same thing about Watch Dogs when that came out? Its such a bait and switch from the E3 trailers to actual games. Makes me ashamed to be French and have ubisoft be based here.

Mods can't fix games if the entire game has issues. You'd need to modify source code and AFAIK modding tools do not allow access to absolutely everything the original developers have.
