Marketing is a hell of thing. Not content with simply announcing their game (I mean come on, how boring is that?), publishers and their marketing machines are constantly trying to find ways to get people to pay attention to their upcoming projects or releases.

Bioware, of Mass Effect Andromeda fame, has taken this to a whole other level of originality with its latest stunt. Alistair McNally, head of Design & Art at the Edmonton, Austin and Montreal Bioware Studios, recently took to Twitter revealing that he had been wearing a t-shirt with the company’s newest, unrevealed franchise emblazoned on it and walked around the GDC show floor.

This has to be the most subtle ad campaign yet. The Bioware forums are filled with people trying to internet detective their way to the truth but as of yet no one seems to be able to find a picture of the shirt in question. It shouldn’t be too long before an official announcement, as McNally revealing the new IP’s existence on Twitter is something that would have had to have been sanctioned by the higher ups in marketing.

The new franchise was last mentioned during the Bioware E3 2014 presentation in which they outline their vision for what the new IP will be. “We’re trying to build a fictional world that feels real…and is constantly changing” is just one of the many vague descriptions of what the game will achieve. When we’ll see more information or what kind of game we can expect still remains to be seen but you can be sure that Bioware is going to be a lot more present in the future than it has been of late.

We're aware that BioWare has three studios. The first, Austin, is working on Star Wars: The Old Republic. We know BioWare Montreal is behind Mass Effect: Andromeda, leaving BioWare Edmonton free to work on the IP since back in 2014. What do you reckon it could be? Hoping for more sci-fi drama or a return to swords and sorcery? Let us know!
