It seems you’re not a proper AAA game these days unless you royally cock up your PC launch with performance problems and bizarre oversights. Quantum Break is most definitely no different, although I guess we shouldn’t be all that surprised considering the PC version wasn’t even announced this time two months ago.
There’s a number of teething issues for Windows 10 Store release then, ranging from choppy performance to G-Sync troubles and SLI nightmares. Rest assured though, Remedy has its eye on the situation, taking to the GAF of all places to respond to the backlash, saying “We are monitoring the discussion and what is going on. I had written a longer response, but it’s just gonna be misunderstood etc, so what I will say is that, rest assured, lot of of work went into the Win10 version and we are looking at the reactions now as well as potential issues.”
The issues are fairly widespread and unfortunately it doesn’t look as if there’s any through-line to connect them. Some people with GTX 980’s have reported FPS dropping below 30 on Low settings, while there’s the usual gamut of Windows Store issues that seems to affect every game that crops up there. It’s not like Quantum Break is the greatest looking game ever, despite those sky-high system requirements.
Last but not least it looks as if Quantum Break is being upscaled from 720p, whatever native resolution you‘re trying to run at, lending a slightly fuzzy image quality.
Not a great start then, but at least Remedy is taking the first steps to tackle these problems. Unfortunately it’s becoming all too commonplace with Windows Store games, which doesn’t bode well for the future. Fingers crossed Microsoft can get its arse in gear.
