Ahah, Fable Legends may not be as dead as we’d been led to believe! Despite being cancelled following the closure of legendary British studio Lionhead Studios, the Xbox One and PC title could be resurrected by a number of ex-Lionhead devs. Victory for the chicken chasers.

The 4v1 asymmetric multiplayer game pitted four adventurers against a dungeon master who would try to stop them in their tracks. Fable Legends was apparently just a matter of months away from an open beta, having ran closed betas since last year. Microsoft somewhat unceremoniously pulled the rug from under them and shut the studio down though, leaving Fable Legends in development limbo.

According to sources close to MCV, a number of the ex-developers are in discussions with Microsoft in the hopes of obtaining the IP once more. Fable Legends would then continue development as an indie product, although Microsoft would still hold the rights to Fable so it couldn’t appear on rival platforms such as the PlayStation 4.

“We aren’t sharing additional details beyond that we have ceased development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees at Lionhead about our proposed closure of the studio as well”, said a Microsoft spokesperson.

Obviously such a studio would need a hefty cash injection to continue working on a game like Fable Legends, so it’s unclear how this could play out. For those still holding out hope though, there is a small chance Fable Legends may yet see the light of day.

We'll keep you posted of course if anything changes.

I honestly prefer them to just release a remastered Fable 2 for PC. But that's just me, I personally hate MOBAS and can't get into them.

It would be silly to throw it away considering how it looked like they were nearly done.

First Fable was the best! Replayed that game loads of times. Then it got worse as it went on. Can't they just listen to the fans? Do a prequel to original Fable, it would be amazing.

Well chronologically, Fable Legends is a prequel, coz it takes place in a time before the hero's guild exists... thought i do agree with you in that i also wanted a more direct prequel to the original. There are so many great characters and events and areas that we could explore.

Devs never learn from their mistakes. MMO's hurt the reputation of series, take WOW, ESO, SWTOR and this game for example. To succeed in long term you need to make a SP game, not a MMO or a MOBA.

1st of all this is MOBA not MMO so i dont know why you mentioned MMO at all. 2nd of all MMO doesn't hurt anything its a fine gender on its own but people dont want MMO they want 3D facebook farmville.

"its a fine gender on its own"...
Genre*
I m not a grammar nazi but, "Gender" is still a pretty touchy subject in games and "Genre" is the TYPE of the game, so you might wanna be more mindful of the difference between those 2.... :D

And yes, while MMO is a fine genre in its own right, MMOs based on primarily single-player games don't always do justice to the series coz single player games have a fixed narrative while MMOs have a story that builds progressively over time, which can hurt the continuity of SP game stories if not done right....

Why even bother? Nobody was really all that upset that it got cancelled. Even if they do finish it, it's not like people are going to magically start wanting to play it.

True. Fable pretty much died after the 3rd. If they should put effort to something, I would love Black & White 3 or even B&W 2 remaster (or some way to play it).
