The DOOM Closed Beta was short but sweet, and gave us an inkling into what we can expect from the full release of the multiplayer. If you wanted to get involved but were unable to sell your soul for a code, you’ll be pleased to know that the gates of Hell will reopen for all to join the carnage from April 15th to April 17th with the DOOM Open Beta.

The Open Beta will have access to the same game modes and maps as the Closed Beta did. You’ll be able to slaughter your way through Team Deathmatch and Warpath (a moving King of the Hill style game mode) and the maps of Infernal and Heatwave. Check out our gameplay video of the Closed Beta here to see for yourself.

You can preload the Open Beta as of April 12th by signing up at the official site here. I got a chance to sit down with Doom 4 Closed Beta and I thought it was pretty fun, if not a little underwhelming in places. The Glory melee kills are sometimes cool but the pacing feels a bit hit and miss from the little I had access to.

The full version of DOOM releases May 13th on both the Xbox One and PS4 as well as the PC. Pre-orders are already available and a Season Pass can also be had by parting from even more of your hard earned cash, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Any of you guys going to be playing the DOOM beta? Drop us a comment with your thoughts on the game so far and if you’ll be “Fighting Like Hell” come May.

I tried it and it runs fair even on just 1 of my cards (no SLI support yet).
@1080p with TAA+FXAA & Motion Blur turned off I am getting between 42 & 60 fps with adaptive v-sync. 50 fps seems to be my average. If they give a SLI update at or around launch then I should have no problem staying above 60fps.

However I find the multi player to be extremely boring. I hope the single player campaign is good because the multi player is certainly nothing special.

Try searching Doom Open Beta on Steam, if not, try the link to the official site under the video in the article. Hope that helps.

instead of searching for doom try searching for doom open beta. that's how i found it. regional restrictions don't matter on steam as far as i know.

oh God it overlaps with Battleborn's beta. Now I'm screwed cause I already preloaded that and I'll preload this and then I'll be torn between playing the two. *cries

Delete the Battleborn to prevent it from tempting you then play DOOM as long as you can

Classics return to life. I grew up playing Quake and UT. Arena shooters defined FPS and should be the only legit way of playing FPS games. Modern Warfare 1 redefined but that's it, every other CoD was so bad, even thinking about it gave me cancer. There is a special feeling when you can rocket mid-air; or when you are a rail expert; or more than 35% lightning gun accuracy. Good times.

I disagree, limiting FPS to arena shooters would be like limiting RPG's to JRPGs. You wouldn't have WW2 shooters, modern shooters, scifi shooters, class based shooters, tactical shooters, military shooters. Arena shooters might seem like they are best due nostalgia but truth is every FPS sub-genre has its own legends.

Multiplayer Shooters, that's what I meant, not all FPS, talking about multiplayer. I don't see any other way of playing FPS against somebody if it isn't fast-paced, hand-eye coordinated, timed action. I do love some slow-paced, stealthy, intelligent FPS like Survarium, maybe some other.
To sum up, multiplayer FPS is arena shooter IMHO.

What about Rainbow Six Raven Shield, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 4, Arma 2, Halo 3 etc. ? Opposite to you, i don't like shooters which require monster reflexes, i prefer shooters where better tactics and better aim is more important than moving faster and shooting first. Though this doesn't mean fast paced shooters are bad, i just don't like them as much as slower shooters, i still play them and think they should continue existing.

I only recognize CoD 4, as I have said, MW1 redefined it. Arena shooters are ["only"] about aim, reflexes, speed, map knowledge, powerup timers, tactics if you play Capture the flag. I only recognize such games, most arena shooters, CoD MW1, maybe 2; maybe couple of others. BF series didn't excite me, haven't played Halo so can't say, Arma was ok, nothing special, played RS Raven-good, vegas-bad, but that is not the point. I grew up on doom, quake, UT, C&C, Dune,Baldur's Gate, stuff like that. Seeing Battlefield, CoD (post-MW2), Siege.

...just makes me cry.
Having said that, you like tactics, I like reflexes and some tactics. Reason why I don't like tactics is because I play dota 2 and CS GO; it made me not trust other people Teamplay
P.S. Forgot to mention Half Life and it's mod CS.

That "teamplay" sums it perfectly :D
Once i was playing Arma 3, admin killed me with friendly fire than kicked me when i asked why did he do it.

Exactly, that's why I don't like to play games where you have to rely on others.
