News on the now-cancelled Prey 2 from Human Head Studios is getting a little long in the teeth at this stage, but a new report has emerged suggesting a Prey 2 reboot is under development at Arkane Austin. That’s the partner studio to Dishonored developer Arkane Studios, and they have reportedly been working on Prey 2 for a number of years now, with a full reveal planned for Bethesda’s pre-E3 2016 press conference.

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier said as much in the comments section of an article on DOOM review copies, writing "All I’ve heard is that they’re announcing it at E3! I’m not 100% sure, though. I do know it’s codenamed Danielle and under development at Arkane Austin. And this is a totally new Prey 2 (it might even be called something else now), not the one we saw in 2011 from Human Head."

Alien Noire, a fan site dedicated to Prey and the rumoured sequel, also said it has received confirmation a new Prey game is going to be announced in June. Bethesda was reportedly unimpressed with the work Human Head did on the sequel, cancelling development and handing the reins to Arkane Austin.

The original Prey launched way back in 2006, back when every game looked a little bit like Doom 3. It also doesn’t feel all that long ago I picked up for my 360, which is a little worrying. From what I can remember in the grim and distant past it had some pretty neat level design with crazy portals and gravity changing.

It certainly would be interesting to see Prey 2 make a return from the dead, but how does you see a sequel panning out? Is the original’s gameplay too outdated to form the basis? Let us know!
