The rate at which Final Fantasy games are getting remastered / remade is kind of astonishing. Hot on the heels of the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on PC last month, Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy XII is getting the special treatment. I think the best bit about all this is that Final Fantasy XII came out on PS2, and a remaster has been announced two generations later for PS4, all in the time since Final Fantasy XV was originally announced. Well done, Square Enix.
The new version, dubbed The Zodiac Age, is only confirmed for PlayStation 4 at the moment, but based on past form a PC version is practically an inevitability.
As ever this remaster comes with a hefty list of improvements, giving the graphics a high resolution bump, adding surround sound support and higher quality audio, along with quality of life improvements such as shorter load times, auto-saves and a high-speed mode.
At the moment there’s only a 2017 launch in Japan for PS4, but hopefully we’ll know more about a PC version when the western version is officially announced.
