A moment, please, for the achievers in our gaming community. Steam guru PalmDesert has become the first ever Steam user to break through level 1,000. At the time of writing he sits at a mighty 1049 and he’s advancing at an incredible pace. As befits an extreme user like this, Valve hadn’t even designed level icons high enough to match his activity, his level instead glitching outside the bounds of the image.

It’s enough to make me look at my level 10 with a sense of woeful shame. I thought I was doing alright with 236 games owned, but apparently I am but a drop in the ocean. PalmDesert is sitting pretty with a huge library of over 5,000 games, 3,300 DLC, and over 3,000 badges. The total number of games available on Steam is around 9000, so he’s got over half of the entire catalogue. Despite that massive library of over 5000 games, he’s still somehow managed an average completion rate of 39%. This man takes his Steam very seriously.

I can’t say I’ve got all that into boosting my Steam level, but it takes a combination of factors to get that high. Rank points come from owning games, crafting badges, doing trades, having more friends and participating in events. As you can tell from his packed Steam profile, you can’t really get more active than PalmDesert.

I dread to think just how much PalmDesert has spent amassing this collection, but he’s got one hell of a library of games to choose from on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

What do you make of PalmDesert’s achievements? Any GD’ers lurking with sky high Steam levels?

Can't say I have a high Steam level, but I now own around 1060 games with about 400 DLCs.
I'm both a collector and an achievement hunter. Sadly I don't have as much time to game as I used to.

Well... gonna keep rising as high as I can.
Someday I'll have my own "Games on Demand"-Server where all my games are installed and I can just copy them over to my gaming rig via simple commands.

Yeah.. someday.

Sidenote: I spent about 5000$ on Steam so far, but considering 1000 games. Sales!

  • About the 39% completiong rate, that isn´t really true only from games you have atleast 1 achivement count for this. So even tho he got 5000 games he probably only has like 100 games at max which count for this achivement thing.

if you uninstall a game from your hard drive from steam does that mean you have to buy it again?

No, the games you purchase will always be stored in your Steam Library, in the Steam App, you can install and unnistall it anytime you want.

Steam is a DRM (Digital Rights Management), so in other words, your games get linked to your account and as long as you have the login credentials for said account, you can always redownload your owned games.

How many HDD's does he have to store all those games??? He must have his own cloud server to store them all.

That depends of the HDD capacity but the capacity required would be around 9500GB

If the hyperlink for PalmDesert was supposed to redirect you to his Steam profile, it's actually just reloading this page. Need a fix ?

Wow... That is amazing. I just don't have the time to be that active on Steam because I have other things to do & not all of my games are bought through Steam. I am a measly level 22, but I have some friends on Steam that are over well over level 400. I don't understand how they do it. ;)
