Up For Debate - Best Game Of 2016 So Far

Written by Jon Sutton on Sat, Jul 16, 2016 4:00 PM

I glanced at my calendar earlier this week and it struck me that we’d just passed the halfway point of 2016. I don’t know why the middle of something always seems like a good time to take stock, but here we are nevertheless. The first half of 2016 has been, to put it lightly, a little bit sizzling in the gaming world. We’re no longer tethered to that pesky holiday cycle as much as we once were, with plenty of the more adventurous AAA developers choosing to get their wares out during this quiet period.

What surprised me while gathering together this list was just how many great games were released during the first half of this year. There were so many that I’d completely forgotten about a few greats, and it’s surely a far stronger lineup than any previous year I can think of, although 2015 was of course dominated by The Witcher 3.

So here’s a (hopefully) comprehensive list of the best brand new games you can play on PC or console during the first half of 2016. Obviously we’re all different and there’s bound to be a few of you that liked some less popular games, but please let everyone know in the comments below so we can shine a bit of light of them.

You’ve got three votes as I’m all too aware it’s difficult to nail your absolute favourite, so feel free to choose three and we can see which is the most popular game among GD members so far in 2016.

Let us know what your picks were and why in the comments below!

I could have easily voted for Blood & Wine. Since it was already the clear winner, I vote for X-Com 2. That game was a blast.

Well i havent played many of the games listed, but out of the ones i do have, i chose Enter The Gungeon and Dark Souls III, and then i gave a vote to TW3 - Blood & Wine, without even playing it, because i know its that good!
Really wish that Uncharted 4 & Ratchet and Clank werent PS4 Exclusives :(

I wouldn't necessarily call W3: Blood & Wine a "game" (technically an expansion), but it is damn good. Other than that - DOOM is a breath of fresh shooter air everyone's been waiting for ages and it's a HELL lot of fun, so DOOM all the way!

You can bet your CPU's that if they surprised us with Half-life 3 this year or in a following year, it would be on this list, or one like it.

Can Blood and Wine acually win game of the year? It definitely deserves it and the truth is even as expansion it provides more content then half of the games released today.....

DLC or full game, who cares? Blood & Wine is still the best piece of digital art in 2016.

If that this was called "Best digital art of 2016",I wouldn't care
However,it's called "best game of 2016 so far",so I don't feel like a expansion should be a option

I bet half of those games are expansion packs with a full price tag on the other hand you have a full game with an expansion pack price tag. EP or not, Blood & Wine is the one deserves the top place, maybe you should blame the other games for failing to compete with an EP.

"expansion packs with a full price tag"
That does not make any sense at all.
Like it or not,Blood and Wine does not belong on this list

Maybe we should remove it because it makes unfair competition, since it has half of votes.

Why is The Witcher 3 DLC listed here? Shouldn't this list just be games released in 2016 instead of DLC released in 2016 for a 2015 game? Why is there just the one DLC listed & no other DLCs for other games listed? I am not trying to compare the two, but if The Witcher 3's Blood & Wine is listed then why isn't Fallout 4's Far Harbor listed? I don't get it...
