The Biggest Games Still To Come In 2016

Written by Jon Sutton on Sun, Jul 17, 2016 4:00 PM

Yesterday we asked what you thought were the best games of 2016 so far, but what about all the goodies we’ve still got to come? July’s an interminably slow month, but once we get through to the second half of August and beyond, the games release schedule is absolutely ablaze with quality.

12 Biggest Games Still To Come In 2016

Battlefield 1

Probably the granddaddy of them all, it’s safe to say Battlefield 1 is going to be a smash hit. There is an unfortunate whiff of Battlefield 4 reskin to the whole affair, and certainly it’s nothing like that original trailer, but thematically Battlefield 1 still manages to stand on its own among AAA titles.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Say what you want about all those downvotes, COD: Infinite Warfare is still going to be an absolute juggernaut. Like BF1, Infinite Warfare represents a radical shift to the series, taking places into the depths of space in a frenetic battle for the future of Earth.

Civilization VI

A bit of a surprise announcement a few months ago, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI spells trouble for our free time. Firaxis’ notoriously addictive turn-based strategy series is back with a controversial new visual style, dynamic diplomacy, and cities spanning multiple tiles.

Dishonored 2

While not a megastar by any stretch of the imagination, the original Dishonored picked up its fair share of fans for its unique visuals and ambitous approach to first-person stealth and storytelling. A brief, sweet affair, fans have been hankering after a sequel ever since. In Dishonored 2 fans can play as Emily Kaldwin for the first time, while Arkane has promised to provide more options for those who want to sneak through non-lethally.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

I keep forgetting this things even coming in 2016, but sure enough the sequel to one of the best tactical RPGs in years, if not ever, is on target for a 2016 launch. Once more players will be able to team up with a buddy for the entire adventure. Divinity: Original Sin 2 ups the ante with 4-player co-op, a love & hate system and even a competitive multiplayer mode.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

It’s kind of flown under the radar seen being delayed roughly 18 years, but Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is out next month and make no mistake, this is going to be huge. The series is famed for revolutionising two genres in one fell swoop - FPS and RPG - and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided looks to up the ante even further with some of the largest environments seen in Deus Ex yet, open-ended gameplay and potentially hundreds of different endings depending on the player’s choices.

Gears of War 4

Just about the most testosterone fuelled series in existence, we’ve been waiting years for a proper Gears of War sequel. Gears of War 4 is set 25 years after the events of the previous trilogy, introducing Marcus Fenix’s son J.D. Fenix. A 20+ hour co-op campaign is promised, along with usual suite of hyper-competitive multiplayer modes. And the best bit about Microsoft’s flagship third-person shooter? It’s also coming to PC day and date with Xbox One.

Mafia III

Having been a little bit disappointed with Mafia II I had low expectations for Mafia III, but everything we’re seeing so far from trailers to gameplay footage points to a bona fide hit on Hangar 13’s hands. The 60’s New Orleans setting is very unusual, and certainly a far cry from the tired Chicagos and New Yorks which usually form the basis from most gangster games.

No Man’s Sky

Here it is - the biggest game of all time. 18 quintillion planets to explore. It would the lives of millions of people to see and do everything in No Man’s Sky. It is the joy of exploring an entire universe and it fits on a 6-inch disc. For a game so hyped there are also still so many mysteries about how it plays, what your purpose is, and how you can connect with other players in its seamless online world.

Steep

As far as Ubisoft E3 show-closers go, Steep received just about the most tepid response I’ve ever seen. Without the innate coolness of the Watch Dogs reveal or the awe-inspiring visuals of The Division, there wasn’t a whole lot in Steep to immediately. But this is Ubisoft we’re talking about, and every game it publishes ends up huge. Steep is the biggest shake-up the sports genre has ever seen and provided Ubisoft can nail the feel of the sports, I think this could be an unexpected hit when it arrives in December.]

Titanfall 2

On paper Titanfall 2 isn’t all that exciting, but the list of faults with the original were so easy to spot that its sequel should nail it. Titanfall 2 introduces a proper single-player campaign for the rest time, wherein aspiring pilots can learn the basics of the game’s slick parkour movement and Titan gameplay. There’s a new progression system for online players too, intended to keep gamers hooked for the long term.

Watch Dogs 2

It was inevitable it would come, but it was great to see Ubisoft put in a major effort to revitalise what Watch Dogs is for the sequel. Watch Dogs 2 is bigger, more colourful, and full of personality, could this be the Watch Dogs we were always after? Fingers crossed it means Ubisoft is going to pull an Assassin’s Creed 2 on us, delivering on the original premise in every single way.

Really looking forward to Civ 6. Deus Ex and Dishonored 2 also look great, but come out on during busy season so I will probably wait for a sale on those two.

I loved hacking into other ppl's games and screwing with them! ;)

I'd hide in a car near them, if they stood out in the middle of the road I'd run them over and bait them to chase me in a car. I'd usually get away. xD

Ohh i think i see why Ghandi is there. To promote peace between COD fans and BF fans. He did that in India with the British colonisation and stuff (Nat Geo channel or Discovery not sure). That is why he is in between COD and BF (I think) :)

This is the best explanation ever. I think some fanboy of one of those games will assassinate him in next article.

I don't know... I've never seen Gandhi promote peace in a Civilization game... those who played Civ will know ;). I know I was crazy to ignore him !

Seriously though, nice touch from the writer to put him between the two.

There is no war between PC gamers and console gamers. That war is between console manufacturers and knowing costumers.

Depends on games and fps you play at. I can say a gtx 960 or overclcoked 950 for next 3 years will play games at high to ultra at 60fps at that res. 750ti like my card is starting to suffer at high settings at 768p and will only get worse.

So.... should I aim for a 256bit gpu?

Yeah. Even the R9 380. That range of cards. They should push that res for 3-5 years. We (I'm also upgrading) can wait for 1060 3gb and rx 460/470, ven though they are advertised as 1080p cards.

We would not have to worry about lowering details while gaming and upgrading GPUs for at least 4 years. If the new cards are too expensive then r9 380/gtx960 is the way to go as they should get their prices lowered.
