Early Copy Of No Man's Sky Goes For $2000 As Retail Copies Spotted In The Wild

Some daft twonk has apparently shelled out $2000 for a copy of No Man’s Sky. Physical copies of the PlayStation 4 version are reportedly out in the wild, with one enterprising eBay using putting a copy he’d nabbed up for auction. Somehow they chanced upon someone foolish enough to part with $2000 for the privilege. There's one born every minute.

$2000, or £1,524, would be enough to buy 33 copies of No Man’s Sky when it launches in 11 days time. Some people, it seems, have zero patience.

You can see the eBay listing over here, although I have to admit to being extremely suspicious. The seller has barely any feedback, and on closer inspection you can see the paper inlay on the left hand side of the case advertises No Man’s Sky, the very game it’s packaged in. Sony typically uses this slot to promote its next big title. My copy of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, for example, has this very same scrap of paper advertising No Man’s Sky, along with the now incorrect June 21st release date.

In this particular case I’ve got a feeling the buyer’s been stitched up. There are other copies doing the rounds though, including an image of the PS4 game which is being shared over on Reddit.

With just over a week to go until No Man’s Sky arrives, you’d probably do well to resist temptation and wait to get your hands on a legit copy.

So Hello Games servers are active? Still can't figure out how being a persistent universe and all, he has gained access to the game...even with a copy in hand, the persistent universe is nothing new here....requires live servers like all other mmo's, which in essence means Hello Games is encouraging this behavior if he is able to play...I could be totally wrong about the server stuff though....

You can play the game offline. it's not really an mmo, it's more like your activities are uploaded to a server where then everbody can see it. However, you can run into people when in online mode and directly interact with them.

Ah ok, so if it has a pure offline mode that simply updates exploration data when you login to the servers then I guess he could have access, I haven't followed too many details on the game, super stoked about it but want it to be fresh when I pick it up...

Not that with the possibility of 18 trillion possible planets will anyone really be at a disadvantage....unless they have local group starting clusters.

Interesting.... the ebay listing is no longer there..... that generally never happens unless a couple months have passed or unless ebay suspects something is afoul.

Why would you downvote an article? These guys contribute to the site far more with these articles than we do with our comments and you want to add a slap in the face like that simply because you don't like the article?

Hopefully EA won't see this and think: What if we can make people pay to play the game before release? The earlier the more money.

(I have a strange thought processing, I know)

Want to play the game 1 year before release? Great! That would be 999,999 dollars only!

I actually love the reasoning around why he paid that much for this game. but then I realize what he could have done with that money :D

The game being sold from West Chester Ohio..... that's just a few miles from where I live..... Ohio is not a place where you encounter dev copies or pre-release copies of games.... there are no game development studios or publishers located here.... I call fake, he got duped, and I hope he doesn't give this guy $2000

Not only that.... he has tons of no longer registered users in his feedback... suggesting he's been artificially inflating his feedback.

And I'm wrong.... it's completely real, ebay auction has been taken down, but the buyer has posted videos, fortunately he didn't get scammed.... question is then.... how'd this guy from West Chester Ohio get a copy in the first place... unless maybe retailers have their stock already and he stole a copy from his job?

But it's a persistent universe....requiring Hello Games to turn their servers on....

I could be wrong but I have never seen a mmo'S servers go live before they intended them too...

I think that's only for the MP portion of the game. They said you could play it completely offline. So I guess someone could play it early.

i would rather use that amount of money on a up to date build. That much for a game is horrible, then again early access to Overwatch went about the same. oh well.

What's with your build?! A cpu that uses DDR3 ram with 3gb of DDR4 at DDR2 clocks? I see that 16 gb odf DDR4 is written on the right but that is still not possible with that cpu.
