At last, the gods of gaming news are smiling down upon us once more. The annual QuakeCon event has been going down in Texas, the one stop shop for all things awesome in the world of first-person shooters. The first of these nuggets, and perhaps the most important, is a brand spanking new in-game trailer for PC exclusive FPS Quake Champions. Just in case you had any doubts as to whether this would be a proper Quake game, rest assured, it most certainly is.

Quake Champions looks like arena shooting at its finest, with weapon pickups, power-ups, twitchy gameplay, vertical maps, and all sorts of giblety goodness. All this with support for 120Hz as well.

On first impressions it could well be the return of the king. My one remaining worry is the champions themselves though, each of which offer unique skills which could take away from the level playing field we came to love in Quake 3: Arena.

Still just a vague 2017 launch for this one, bit considering how publisher Bethesda has already handled modern sequels for DOOM and Wolfenstein, you’d do well to be excited for this one.

Is this a downgraded version of first trailer they showed?

Been enjoying UT4 a lot and got tired from all the CS I played, I'm very excited about the new quake!

Not really into arena shooters.... to each their own though, still I'd prefer to see Quake 1 rebooted.... kinda like they did with Doom. The grand daddies of FPS games, Wolfenstein, Rise of the Triad, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, all have had reboots except for Quake, which was technically the first true 3D FPS.

Looks like a clone of the new Unreal Tournament. No offence but I've expected something more grim and gory. At the moment UT4 has returned to the roots more than Quake Champions. I still hope both titles bring PC shooters back to the TOP :)

FPS glory! It's nice that they have retained and improved on the features of Quake 3 Arena!

I better fire up my old Intel Dual core PC with Windows XP & practice on Quake 3 Arena till I get Quake Champions. This is going to be fun!

the best thing about this has to be the fact that it's developed exclusively for the pc. so no downgrades, no terrible optimization. bethesda practically said this was how shooters were supposed to be at e3. i think this might be the next big thing.

Not my favourite type of shooter (i was slow even when i was a teen and i am in my mid 20s now, your reflexes get slower with age) but i will play this game many hours only because of nostalgia, it reminds me good old days.

Quake will once again dominate the FPS genre. Just take the class system (if any) to the lowest possible level and kudos. Skill, no camp, fast pace and steady hand win again.
