We’ve got our first look at some proper gameplay for The Church in the Darkness, giving us a sneak peek at how its mechanics are taking shape. It begins with an aunt heading to a remote settlement in a South American jungle, looking for her nephew. She’s unsure if he’s part of some bleach-drinking cult or actually down there having a fantastic time. I suspect the former, or we’ll have quite dull game on our hands.
Naturally enough the aunt doesn’t want to just stroll up to these cult members and ask them how her nephew, for fear they’ll scoop her brains out and use it as pate. She doesn’t take much convincing to gun people down, which might be a bad idea if they’re actually a sane bunch.
The Church in the Darkness looks like a very interesting game in concept, but it remains to be seen whether it can be a good game.
Paranoid Productions is targeting an early 2017 launch for The Church in the Darkness.
