For 11 long years Microsoft's seminal Forza racing series has avoided PC. We had the F2P Apex spin-off earlier this year, but now we get the real deal with Playground Games Forza Horizon 3. Set in a huge, open-world Australia, Forza Horizon 3 features a massive co-op campaign, off-road racing and more than 350 cars to tear around it in. The only hurdle now is buying a game from the dread Windows Store. Oh, and making sure you can hit Forza Horizon 3's recommend PC requirements.

Forza Horizon 3 Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit Anniversary Update
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 3.6 GHz or AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz
  • RAM: 12 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 4 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 480 4GB
  • HDD: 40 GB Available Space
  • DX: DirectX 12

Never before have I seen a developer publish recommended system requirements only. Fingers crossed that changes between now and its launch next month, as otherwise we're relying on guesswork. A safe bet for now though is to to compare them to the Forza Motorsport 6: Apex system requirements. That only launched a few months ago and runs on the same engine. As an additional thing, the Windows Store doesn't have any refunds as far as I'm aware, so if you're unsure about performance then download the free-to-play Forza Apex first before you lump down cash on Forza Horizon 3.

As for Forza Horizon 3's recommended specs, they're every bit as demanding as you'd expect from a game this gorgeous. In terms of where these specs aim for, you're good to go at Ultra / 1080p. Both the GeForce GTX 1060 and Radeon RX 480 are Nvidia and AMD's respective newest mid-tier graphics cards. This is pegged as the ideal spec for PC gamers, with additional hardware only being needed if you want to hit 1440p or 4K resolutions.

It's a first-party Microsoft game so DirectX 12 support and Windows 10 is a must, along with the anniversary update. 12GB RAM is quite hefty as well, and considering not many people run with this, you're looking at 16GB being needed for most people upgrading from 8GB.

Remember, you can always check out how well your PC can run the Forza Horizon 3 System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Forza Horizon 3 benchmark chart.
