FIFA 17’s with us in a few weeks, sporting an all-new engine with a visual overhaul and an in-depth story mode for the first time ever. But what about the really important bit, the reason we buy it year in, year out - the players. Which are the greatest that you're planning to slot in your FIFA 17 Ultimate Team. EA Sports has published the 10 best players in FIFA 17, and after seven long years, Lionel Messi has finally been knocked off his perch. But, by which footballing maestro?

  1. Cristiano Ronaldo - 94
  2. Lionel Messi - 93
  3. Neymar - 92
  4. Luis Suárez - 92
  5. Manuel Neuer - 92
  6. Gareth Bale - 90
  7. Zlatan Ibrahimović - 90
  8. Jérôme Boateng - 90
  9. Robert Lewandowski - 90
  10. David De Gea - 90

It wasn’t really going to be anyone else at the number one spot, was it? After an incredible Euros with Portugal and a not-too-shabby season with Real Madrid, Ronaldo has reclaimed the top spot for the first time since FIFA 09. He’s won the Ballon d’Or three times, the Euros, two and Champions League titles, but I bet you there’s still room in his ego to be chuffed with topping Messi once more. Not bad at the ripe old age of 31 either.

The rest of the list is obviously comprised of some top class talent. Neur’s ranked as the best keeper in the world while Jerome Boateng scoops up best defender. Zlatan seems to be a bit high at number seven, but who am I to judge a man who says he can play in all 11 positions and can juggle an orange like I juggle a beachball.

You can read the full list here so you can get a head-start on just who needs to be included in your FIFA Ultimate Team.

What do you make of EA Sports' judgement, are these truly the 10 best footballers on the planet? Who's going to get into your FIFA 17 Ultimate Team? Let us know!
