Despite Sega’s rise a a PC-oriented publisher, there’s still a few of its key franchises conspicuous by their absence. The biggest of these has to be the long-running Yakuza series. Spiritual successor to Shenmue and a bit of a big deal on PlayStation consoles. Judging from the released box art for the upcoming Yakuza 0 though, there could still be hope for a PC release.
Okay, so on the box below you can see Yakuza Zero is clearly labelled as a “PS4 Console Exclusive Game”.
‘Console Exclusive’ is a term used by Sony when a game is also going to come to PC. Look at Street Fighter V, a PC and PS4 title, and you’ll see exactly the same thing.
Sega’s official response to the situation is as follows: “All that is confirmed and all that players should expect is a PlayStation 4 release. There is no PC version in production.”
A firm no on that front then, but the Japanese publisher has said recently it has more PC ports planned for previous console exclusives. If we can bag up-ressed versions of the entire Yakuza series that would be quite a get with PC gamers. Few games are as quirky and unusual as any of the Yakuza franchise.
What do you think? Is Sega fibbing, could we see Yakuza come to PC? What other Sega titles would you like to see make the jump? Let us know!
