We’re just two weeks away from one of the biggest game launches of the year. Gears of War 4 is out on October 11th worldwide for both Xbox One and PC, and it’s already available to pre-load.

The Coalition has just announced Gears of War 4 is available to pre-load right now on Xbox One. The estimated file size is a hefty 54.6 GB. It’s probably a good job there’s still a few weeks until launch so we can get that humongous file downloaded in time.

The PC version of Gears of War 4 is not currently available for pre-load. However, The Coalition has said a PC pre-load will be available well before launch, giving players plenty of time to get it ready before it unlocks.

When time does Gears of War 4 unlock

Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition unlocks on 06/10/2016 at 21:00 PST / 07/10/2016 at 05:00 BST

Gears of War 4 standard edition unlocks on 10/10/2016 at 21:00 PST / 11/10/2016 at 05:00 BST

Gears of War 4 comes with a free Xbox One copy

Gears of War 4 is the second title (after Forza Horizon 3) to launch alongside the Xbox Play Anywhere (XPA) initiative. Under Microsoft’s XPA, any game bought digitally on Xbox One will also be playable on PC, all for a single purchase price.

This is digital only. Physical copies of the Xbox One version of Gears of War 4 will not work with the Xbox Play Anywhere scheme.

The upshot of all this (aside from effectively getting two copies) is that there will be codes available to buy for Gears of War 4. Up until now any Windows Store exclusive could only be bought from the Windows Store at full price. Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 are already floating around on a number of CD key sites, so it should be much easier to buy them for cheaper than the very expensive MSRP. Things are looking even better for Gears of War 4 because codes are being given away with eligible GeForce GTX 10 Series graphics card purchases. This means there should be plenty of GoW4 PC codes in the wild and available for a reasonable price.

Since it is exclusive to Windows 10 and the MS store, I will not be getting it. I refuse to support such practices. Until MS allows us access to the files that WE PURCHASE, I refuse to support it. I have a Windows 10 license that I will not be using until 2020(Win 7 support ends), so Microsoft, you lost a sale in me.

Well the only one you are cheating is yourself. Windows 10 is great, runs faster than 7. Even 8 was good after a few updates and UI tweaks. The Windows store has improved alot since the beginning, still room for improvement, but not an all bad experience overall

I understand where you are coming from, however as efficient as 10 may be I don't like the whole "spying thing" Before you say anything, I am a cybersecurity major and am well aware of the privacy/cyber environment. As far as the windows store is concerned I made it clear. Give me access to the files I purchased!

GOW, Halo and Forza are all Microsoft's. They will use them to push Windows Store into use. QB going to Steam because the developer petitioned Microsoft to do so but they are not owned by Microsoft.

Star Citizen is a space simulation with a lot of stuff on it , i wouldn't be surprised nor disappointed . but for a simple shooter like GOW4 this is just stupid. even BF1 with its missive maps and better graphics its 43gb

idk why this isn't a thing yet but steam/origin/windows store should give you an option whether to download 4k or standard 1080p files for some games, i am sure this will help people with slow net to skip downloading unnecessary things.

For ultra settings it says gtx 1080 and Fury X, however, sometimes a gtx 1060 performs as good as a Fury X in a lot of games! Don't believe me? Go look at some benchmarks!

More often than in dx12 and vulkan games the fury X is right there with a 1070. I haven't seen a benchmark to show a fury X being brought down to under a 390x.

Well DOOM is currently occupying 65GB on my Hard Drive(!) and that header image wouldn't look out of place in it, so I'm not that surprised.
