Sadly with the state of the games industry these days it actually passes for news when a game doesn’t have a season pass. That’s Respawn’s Titanfall 2 I’m talking about, with an official announcement confirming all post-release maps and modes will be available totally free of charge.

“No season pass required: all maps & modes will be free in Titanfall 2 Multiplayer” reads the official site.

The thinking behind it is that exclusive map packs and modes fragment the community between the haves the have-nots. Clearly the memo didn’t make it over to EA’s other noted FPS studio. Perhaps they’re still waiting on the carrier pigeon bearing the news.

“This means no splitting up the community and it all starts with the legendary Angel City map, remastered from the original Titanfall,” explains Respawn. This means once you’ve purchased Titanfall 2, your investment includes a full single player campaign, the full multiplayer maps and modes, and long-term support with no hidden costs. You can pre-order the game to play 3 days early, but it will never cost you extra.”

As ever I think this is always the best way to go. In Star Wars Battlefront at the moment if you stump up the cash for the Season Pass, some of the new maps and game types are nearly impossible to find a match on. Even in a game as big as that there’s just not enough players to keep healthy populations between all the difference versions. Rainbow Six Siege does this type of thing excellently, dropping a map and a couple of new operators every two months. Ubisoft’s cash then comes exclusively from cosmetics like skins and masks. See Overwatch for a similar scenario.

In effect this makes Titanfall 2 $50 cheaper than the complete Battlefield 1 experience, does this sway your purchase? Should maps and modes always be free? Let us know!

Looks like Titanfall 2's ticking all the boxes :D
Still.. im too broke to buy any of it. I'll just be happy here with my library of absurdly cheap games courtesy of GabeN

it's built on the second version of the engine of titanfall 1.
Funny people do NOT complain When BF games use the same engine...

Which is, believe it or not, the Source engine.

it's so modified that it no longer is the soruce engine. Simply said it's 20% Source, 80% modification...
When I first heard that the original Titanfall was on source(without knowing that it is/was modified), my jaw dropped and I thought that they hard coded so much of it. To my NOT surprise it turned out to be a super heavily modified source engine.

It doesn't matter how modified it is, it's still the source engine. You cant modify something, no matter how heavily it is done and call it something else, it still is what it is.

Yeah, Source was specifically designed to be modified and updated just like this. Which is why I think Source 2 is stupid. Makes the design philosophy of the original pointless.

when changing 80% of the code, literary re-writing it, you can, as source is based on other engines, just like the one of titanfall, but you do NOT call it doom engine or whichever engine it was based of.

A fair point. Unfortunately, it's not a factual conversation, as it's strictly about opinions. We could discuss this for hours. There are arguments to be had on both sides which are valid.

This sounds incredibly strange considering its coming from a company run by EA. Something is definitely strange here.

EA doesn't own Respawn.

just like SW00 said Respawn are their own, while they have signed an exclusivity contract with EA, probably in return of being funded and published by EA, but EA does NOT own them.

Don't be fooled by this and think like ''Oh man EA is starting to listen to us''
No they didn't. They know that people wouldn't buy a season pass for a new franchise like Titanfall is,because it doesn't have enough fans like BF has.

Just look what they did with BF1 this year. The Ultimate edition of BF1 is now not 120$ like it used to be for 4 and Hardline,no no that's not enough, now it is 130$. It is just insulting. And it frustrates me that nobody is paying attention on this.

It's insulting that there are is an "Ultimate Edition" to begin with, let alone the fact that it costs more than double the price of the actual game.

This happens when a game has Denuvo encryption and the game can't be cracked. They can pick their price as high as they want and many will still consider buying it. 130 USD. People should stop buying overpriced and Denuvo based games.

People should start buying it via digital resellers (G2A,Instant gaming...). If enough people would to that they would eventually have to lower the prices back to normal.

That's why the base cost of the game should go higher. Maybe 80 euro or even 100 euro and NOT have them stupid expansions and DLCs.
And before you hate, if the game would cost only 60 euro and include all the DLCs and expansions, that would mean lowering the salaries of many people, dispite how much money they make, so IF you think that people should get lower salaries, you should start getting less money as well, just because some people in-directly, unknowingly said so and made so.

So if I understand you correctly, because this giant corporations are greedy and they can't stop cutting their games into pieces and selling those pieces as DLCs, we should give them even more money in order for them to stop doing so?
60$ a game is a "standard" made by this very same corporations in order to take as much money from the consumers as possible.

You are forgetting here that they are basically selling you their hard work and NOTHING else. When they sell you a game for 60$ their profit is all of that 60$. I think 60$ is more than enough to keep the salaries going while making some profit to the company.

And second part of your argument is incredibly stupid and makes no sense whatsoever. Why would that mean lower salaries exactly?

Psychoman 80 euros are you freaking insane for a videogame? I never bought in my entire life a game of 60 USD because I don't think a game is worth it. I completed GTA V in 10 hours. I finished the game in one shot and barely played it afte

Don't rust to conclusions, especially with a company that is owned by EA. Wait until the game comes out. EA lied to their consumers countless of times, this looks more shady than anything.

Yep, I'm just interested for now, I'm gonna wait for the reviews, then what everyone else is saying before deciding.

After all, it can still be a bad game. I'm hoping it'll be good though.

Also, this is why I support microtransations, so long as the do it correctly. Also, Dice doesn't like the season pass either. It's EA forcing it on them.
