Ubisoft has found itself in a bit of hot water after a Watch Dogs 2 player discovered earlier this week that San Francisco’s ‘ladies of the night’ were rendered in a little more detail than we’ve come to expect. He "accidentally blew up a few women in a back alley” before, ahem, ‘accidentally’ taking a look down below and realising Ubisoft had rendered one of their vaginas in surprising degree of detail. Even more curious was the decision from Ubisoft’s art team to adorn them with crotchless panties. If you want to see the pic, which is probably NSFW for most, I’ll tuck it in at the bottom of this article.
Said user, Goron2000, uploaded the picture via the PlayStation 4 Share function and received a week-long PlayStation Network ban from Sony, which was subsequently upped to a month. Since coming under fire Sony has now decided to lift the ban.
But back to more important things, and Ubisoft has said this “particularly explicit” genitalia will be removed from Watch Dogs 2. From the sounds of things it only applies to one specific NPC, so presumably one of Ubisoft’s thousand-strong development crew did their best to sneak this in.
In a statement Ubisoft said “While Watch Dogs 2 is a mature-rated game, we apologize and will update this NPC model to make it more consistent with other NPC models in the game in a patch to be released this week. We also are working with our first-party partners to ensure that players can continue to play and share all content from the game within the bounds of the first parties’ respective codes of conduct.”
Reading into that it looks as if Ubisoft leaned on Sony to reinstate the banned user.
Here's the pic, or you can view the original (even more NSFW).
What do you think then, is this major over-reaction from all involved? Why's it such a big deal for female genitalia to be included when there’s plenty of dicks swinging around in heaps of games, or obscene amounts of violence that we lap up without even thinking twice?
