IO Interactive has revealed through their official forums that their upcoming title, Hitman Absolution, will have it's "Purist" Mode available to players from the start. This mode offers the player limited assistance in the way of hints and on screen prompts.
But will it be able to bring back the fans who alienated themselves after hearing of the "Instinct" Mode...
In May 2011, Square Enix confirmed the existence of Hitman: Absolution. The fans were ecstatic and were eager to hear anything related to the game. One of the better announcements of that year.
After continuously teasing the fans with screenshots and development tidbits, a crucial interview rose online that caught fans off guard. Apparently, Square Enix wanted Hitman: Absolution to appeal to an even wider market, opening it's doors to new gamers other than their core fan-base. But that wasn't the problem. Far from it.
They introduced a new mode called the Instinct Mode that will help the player in tense and tight situations by showing paths of enemies, objects that could be tampered with etc. Something on the lines of Batman: Arkham City's Detective Vision.
This added ability caused an uproar in the community as it seemed like a significant step away from the previous Hitman titles. A Hitman player is tasked with completing very complex missions, using their own ingenuity while navigating around a detailed environment of enemies. This concept has kept the franchise unique and ahead of any competition. Removing it would push the franchise ever closer to a stock run and gun action game.
But that problem now has a remedy - Purist Mode. For those curious, this particular mode will remove Agent 47's infamous Instinct features. Even the HUD (Heads-up Display) will be turned off. There you go naysayers! Seems like IO Interactive didn't plan on abandoning their loyal fans after all. So, now you'll be at the mercy of the game's AI with no help whatsoever. And, that's how GD likes it!
That's how you become a real assassin!
Just so you know, here's the official: "It seems voicing your concern helps from time to tome. I've just heard from the team that purist mode is now designed to be unlocked from the get go. now, unless something critical happens, I feel confident that you can get your butts handed to you from the first play-through."
Are all you hardcore gamers excited after reading this? Will you start off Absolution in Purist Mode or Instinct Mode?
