Up For Debate - What Graphics Preset Are You Happy With?

So here’s a debate that this site was effectively founded on. What graphics preset (generally speaking) is the one that you’re happy with? Are you the type of guy that has to have every game that you play running at 60fps on Ultra? Or are you happy if you can play it at medium settings at 30 fps? Or better yet, are you more happy with 60fps at medium or 30 fps at ultra? Let’s take a knee and talk this one out.

So chances are you found this site pursuing the very topic we’re debating today. What preset can your rig run a certain game on being one of the most asked questions we face here. So let’s finally find out, what are you happy with?

We can’t think of anyone that would say no to 60fps on very high settings, but are you one of those people that not getting performance that high niggles at the back of your head every time you play a game? Are you constantly chasing new hardware to get this golden prize of performance?

Or are you more of a realist? Happy to sit at medium settings as long as it doesn’t hurt your eyes. If the fps is better at medium, then why push for ultra? Heck as long as low doesn’t make your eyes bleed what's the problem with that? Is it worth buying a £300 graphics card for?

So tell us what you think. Are you the medium settings, average Joe kinda guy? Or are you the pinnacle of the PC master race, angry at anything below 60fps when running The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt on ultra? Let us know your stance in the comment section below!

I need 60 fps in FPS games (I mostly play those) and I don't care much about settings.

60fps+ on ultra ... If not it is time for a new GPU.. I used to play on medium but medium vs ultra - night and day difference.

anything that works smoothly and equals or above 30fps is fine by me

I lock the framerate at 50 these days unless it's a MP shooter. In MP shooter it's at least 120fps.

Settings I will benchmark with framerate in mind. I will mostly turn off silly things like DoF, motion blur and reflections. (Even AA in some hard cases)

My general rule of thumb is maxed out with 2xAA and if 60 FPS can't be achieved then I'll usual drop AO or Shadows a little :)

I will always play 60fps, no matter what setting. If I can 60 fps in Ultra, dandy, if not, it's ok. I can run Witcher 3 on tweaked Ultra constantly 60 fps so I don't really see the problem.

if its a online shooter ill sacrifice quality for fps... but games that i play on my own i prefer quality over fps

always try the highest quality as long as it doesn't drop below 40fps, unless it's a competitive game, then 60 fps is a priority

For the most part, as long as I can play the darn game that's all that really matters to me in the end.

Of course 60FPS/Ultra is the always the target, but choosing between 60FPS/Mid and 30FPS/Ultra pretty much depends on the game itself. On online shooters it's best to aim for smoothness so the FPS don't affect your performance. For horror games I find that Ultra graphics offer more immersion due to better lighting/shadows, so being limited to 30FPS isn't a big deal in these cases.

i first start playing the game's story mode and other stuff in medium settings after i finish the game i set the settings to ultra or optimal from my GeForce experience panel and enjoy replaying the games missions in those settings. and for me what matters most is playable fps like 30-60 and an decent graphics quality.

I remember when I played Dark Souls through a couple times with 11-15 fps using a laptop I got for 50€ and I'd still do it again, no matter the visual quality for me if the game is enjoyable

LOL, I remember enduring frame rates like that on my old laptop in games like Skyrim, Mafia 2, Doom 3, Fallout 3, and Starcraft 2.... lol even some MMOs hardly played what most would call smooth....It's what made me finally break down and put together a gaming PC.

I myself want the full experience of 60fps on Ultra settings, but there are games where 90-144fps are preferable with graphical sacrifice.. once you taste Very High settings paired with 60fps.. there's simply no going back.

Nah.... I could go right back to my 750 TI and medium settings at 45FPS if I had to... main reason I upgraded is because I didn't like the idea that future titles were starting to get demanding enough that in a year or two my 750 TI just might not play the game at all! lol!

Ultra settings with 50+ fps. But if I have to choose I'd prefer higher image quality than fps though, as long as its not too low.

It really depends on the game... some games look amazing on low to medium settings, and some look like complete ass on lower settings... ARK Survival Evolved is one such game... looked like complete garbage on lower enough settings that wouldn't bring my old 750 TI to its knees.

I think everyone wants 60fps @ ultra but that is just not realistic sometimes. For shooters and action games I think you should lower your settings for more fps but in general I'm also happy with -45fps.
