Torment: Tides of Numenera has been one of the most protracted Kickstarters in (just about living) memory, originally getting funded to the tune of $4,188,927 back in 2013. Since then most of backers have gone grey and developed crippling arthritis, but at we at long last have a date! Torment: Tides of Numenera will be launching on February 28th, 2017, and just as you’d expect there’s boatload of special editions and pre-order incentives to entice you in.

Should this all be flying straight over your head, Torment: Tides of Numenera is a spiritual successor to the beloved Planescape: Torment, a cult classic CRPG that was almost totally story-driven rather than combat driven. Tides of Numenera takes a fairly similar approach, dropping players into a bizarre sci-fi world in which the player will have to make thousands of consequential decisions, each spinning the story off in a different direction.

There's big box collector's edition if it takes your fancy, cramming into a giant printed map of the Ninth World, an 8" statue and art book. You can see all the goodies in the trailer below.

Following a recent publisher deal, Torment: Tides of Numenera will be coming simultaneously to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on February 28th.

Huh. An article about a kickstarted game with an interminable development time that isn't about Star Citizen. That's new and interesting.

I'm not sure how I feel about this game. I loved Planescape: Torment back in the day, but it felt like such a catching-lightning-in-a-bottle event that I'm apprehensive of any follow-up. Torment's delay-plagued development cycle has not helped dispel these fears in the slightest.

I haven't played the first one, is it really as good as they say it is?
