We're through to the semi-finals and only six games made it out alive. Battered and bruised, sure, but they made it out. The first semi-final face off sees the almighty Watch Dogs 2 take on Tyranny. The battle of the open-world sandbox vs the tight RPG experience. Watch Dogs 2 has the big budget on its side but Tyranny wowed us all by letting us tap into our more nefarious side. There can be only one winner in Watch Dogs 2 v Tyranny however, so let battle commence. Remember as well, one lucky winner who tweets support will be able to choose from any one of the 12 Games of Christmas in our free game giveaway.

Yesterday we saw Civilization VI take on Total War: Warhammer in the battle of the strategy giants. Gandhi single-handedly nuked Total Warhammer into oblivion, landing the killer blow and settling the question of which is the best strategy game in 2016 once and for all. Civilization VI is your favourite strategy game of the year.

12 Games of Christmas Rules

In celebration of the most festive time of the year, we thought there was no better way to salute some of 2016's goliath's in gaming than a good old-fashioned bar-brawl. A battle Royale filled with broken noses and bloodied brows, red is the colour of Christmas after all. 12 of this year's most memorable titles will be going head to head in a series of knockout rounds over the next 9 days, and in the words of Highlander, there can be only one.

On top of that, to add the brandy to the Christmas pudding, we'll also be giving one winner a game of their choice from the 12 entries on December 24th. Perfect for a spot of gaming in the holidays. All you have to do to win a copy of that game is tweet your support for any game in the 12 Games of Christmas, using the links provided in each article, and we'll pick a winner out of all of the tweets after the final bout. Multiple tweets for different games will count as additional entries to the competition. Tweeting is separate from the poll and does not count as a vote in the 12 Games of Christmas.

How the community voting works

Each day at 18:00 GMT two titles will battle each other with the victor being decided the next day at 17:00 GMT. Whichever title receives the most votes in the poll wins, and will then go through to the next round. 12 games in total will be battling away, and the first six rounds will take place from today and over the next five days - one battle per day. The six games that win will make it through to the semi-finals, where three further 1v1 fights will take place. The winners of these three battles will then make it to the *cough* three-way final to decide the ultimate game this Christmas.

The winner of this knockout competition is Game Debate's favourite choice of game to be played this Christmas, who will triumphantly reign over us all the way into next year.

Each bout will last 23 hours, and the winner is whichever game receives the most votes in the poll, which can be found towards the bottom of each article.
Tweet to be in with a chance to win a copy of the overall tournament winner on Christmas Eve.

Vote in our poll at the bottom to help determine this round's winner.
