Take your Santa hats off and put your thinking caps on. Today we’re going to take you through what all the Sun-Tzus and Dukes of Wellington will have to look forward to in 2017, with our rundown of some of the most anticipated strategy games of 2017. We’re going to go through what we think are the top five best strategy games coming to our war rooms in 2017 and boy o’ boy there’s some zingers. Let’s get into the nitty gritty shall we?
Now being fans of both Civilization and Cities: Skylines, how could we not be ecstatic to get our hands on Urban Empire. A self described ‘City Ruler’, aiming to be the next breed of strategy games, you take the position of Mayor steering the progression of a settlement over a 200 year period. Starting off as a small village you must keep your family in charge of the settlement as it grows into an illustrious city. With city building alongside deep political gameplay and not to forget stunning looking graphics, this is one strategy you’d be silly to miss. And with it being released on January 20th, it looks like we won’t have to wait for long either.
Sudden Strike 4
Or maybe city building isn’t your thing. Maybe you’re more prone to crawling through the decrepit remains of shell shocked city than building it and managing its political situation? Maybe you're more of a fan of battling Nazis than building transport systems? Then fear not because not long after Urban Empire, sometime in the spring of 2017 we’ll be able to hang out with Montgomery and Eisenhower in Sudden Strike 4, a WW2 RTS that is hard not to be a bit pumped for. Featuring butt loads of single player campaign as well as an in depth multiplayer, this historically accurate RTS looks heaps of fun.
Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War III
After a eight year break we can’t wait to jump into the uber violent world of Warhammer 40k Dawn of War again. Coming from the Dawn of War maestros Relic Entertainment this title is shaping up to be well worth the wait. Pitting three of the most popular 40k factions up against each other with Space Marines, Eldar and Orks all going at it, we’re counting the day until we can jump back into the series. Coming to a computer near you this 2017.
Halo Wars 2
Another strategy game that has lain dormant for some time, funnily enough the same amount of time as Dawn of War, Halo Wars 2 is the sequel to 2009’s Halo Wars. A RTS game based in the cherry world of the Master Chief himself, Halo Wars 2 is looking tp be another rip roaring escapade , and with UK based team behind Total War at the helm, how can you not be excited?
Bloody hell it seems we won’t be able to move for re-emerging RTS’s come 2017, as there’s only a ruddy Spellforce 3 on the cards as well. Sequel to 2006’s Spellforce 2, the series combines RTS with RPG in a cocktail that we lost many hours to back in the day. With griffins, giants, dragons, witches and a menagerie of other magical critters we have our beady eyes trained on Spellforce 3 in the hope of it quenching our fantasy RTS come 2017.
So what do you think, are you pumped for these titles come 2017? Do you think there’s any we’ve missed? Let us know in the comments below!
