It’s come a bit out of left field but the upcoming Conan Exiles has all the signs of the next multiplayer survival smash hit. It’s definitely got the jank, on the basis of the latest trailer, but it’s hard to fault Funcom’s ambition with this one. Some truly massive monsters roam the lands of Conan Exiles. Pair this with gigantic player-made structures and real-time destruction and you have a recipe for disaster.
Throughout their time in the lands of Conan Exiles, players are encouraged to team up and build havens. In these bases special resources can be collected and defenses can be built. From the looks of things you’ll need it as well, because when your kingdom gets attacked, it gets attacked in a big way. Giant tentacled creatures can descend from the skies. Mile-long snakes can tear it pieces. Iron giants can crush all in their path.
“Take control of a towering god and drive your enemies before you as you crush their homes and conquer their land”, said creative director Joel Bylos. “That is the epitome of player vs. player conflict in Conan Exiles. We are giving players a huge, detailed open world where they can go out build a village, a city, or a vast empire in their name. If you are on a PvP multiplayer server, just remember there is always someone willing to take that from you!”
Conan Exiles is certainly looking quite promising, if a little rough around the edges. It’s due to hit Steam Early Access on January 31st before coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later in the year. In the meantime be sure to check out the lofty Conan Exiles system requirements to ensure you can run Funcom’s latest.
