Old-school Call of Duty throwback Battalion 1944 has always looked neat, but things kicked up a notch when Square Enix picked up the publishing duties last week. Suddenly Battalion 1944 skyrocketed from indie hopeful to potential multiplayer smash hit.
It's being built in Unreal Engine 4 so it hopefully ends up quite the looker, and its 6 v 6 match-ups show Bulkhead evidently has eSports aspirations. Battalion 1944 should be hitting Steam Early Access in the next month or two, here's the official PC system requirements for Battalion 1944.
Battalion 1944 Minimum System Requirements
- OS: Windows 7 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 340 3.2 GHz
- RAM: 6 GB System Memory
- GPU RAM: 1.2 GB Video Memory
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 or AMD Radeon HD 7850
- DX: DirectX 11
- HDD: 5 GB available space
Battalion 1944 Recommended System Requirements
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core i5-3330 3.0 GHz or AMD FX-6350 3.9 GHz
- RAM: 8 GB System Memory
- GPU RAM: 4 GB Video Memory
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290X
- DX: DirectX 12
- HDD: 5 GB available space
In typical Unreal Engine 4 form these aren't massivley high system requirements. It's not a slight on the game itself but Battalion 1944's indie roots means we're not looking at AAA production standards ere. Battalion 1944 looks nice but not mind-blowing. It's also helped by featuring comparatively small 4 v 4, 5 v 5 and 6 v 6 ranked battles. Your PC isn't have to render and keep track of 32 players like in Call of Duty, or 64 in Battlefield.
All in all it means Battalion 1944's minimum required specs are very low indeed. On the CPU front you're only going to need a dual-core 64-bit processor clocked at 2.4GHz or above. Just about any CPU from the past decade should be fine. On the graphics card fron you need a DirectX 12-capable graphics card (GTX 400 series or Radeon HD 5000 Series and above) with 1.2 GB VRAM or more. It's harder to find a graphics card with less than 1.2 GB than it is more.
From here the only way is up for Battalion 1944's recommended specs. Fortunately these aren't outrageous and any mid to high range rig from the last 2-3 years should be perfectly capable of cranking up Battalion 1944's graphics settings to Ultra at 1080p. Interestingly this is the first we've heard of DirectX 12 support in Battalion 1944. So far DX12 hasn't had a hugely positive impact on performance but we're seeing both AMD and Nvidia make strides forward in this area lately. It's likely if you can run Battalion 1944 in DirectX 12 mode you will achieve higher frame rates.
Installation size is very small at 5GB. This is likely due to Battalion 1944 being in Early Access so expect this to go up as development progresses and more maps, weapons and models are added.
As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run the Battalion 1944 System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Battalion 1944 GPU benchmark chart and we also have a Battalion 1944 Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.

6 vs 6 doesn't seem like a world war game as well because that is too little.

WW2 wasn't only large battles. There was tons of street combat.
