Horizon: Zero Dawn has done rather well for both Sony and Guerrilla Games. Not only was it critically acclaimed, but it’s also managed to shift 2.6 million copies during its first week on sale. That makes it the fast selling first-party PlayStation 4 game yet. By now PlayStations fans are starting to reach the end credits however, and Guerrilla Games has taken the opportunity to tease a Horizon: Zero Dawn expansion pack.
“We’re thrilled that Horizon Zero Dawn has been embraced by critics and players alike," Guerrilla's managing director Hermen Hulst said in a press release. "Developing the game was a labour of love, so it’s extremely satisfying to see that it elicits the same passion and enthusiasm from the gaming public that we felt during its development. This is only the beginning of Aloy’s story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the team already hard at work on an expansion to the story.”
The base game clocks in at about 30-50 hours so there’s already heaps to do in there, however it’s going to be interesting to see what GG has in store for the expansion. I’ve just finished up the game and it’s difficult to see the main narrative continuing without a full-blown sequel. That’s surely going to happen at some point, but I think it would be neat to possible explore the backstories behind some of the other characters Aloy comes across, possibly taking us to different parts of the world.
I’m thinking we can probably expect some more news on this at E3 this year, or, failing that, at the inevitable PlayStation Experience in December.
For those who’ve played it, what would you like to see from Horizon DLC? Do you think we’re going to see Sony turn this into a full-blown franchise? Let us know what you think!
