Just in case you missed it, the Total War announcement Creative Assembly has been teasing for the past week is in fact Total War: Warhammer 2. Sorry history fans, CA is doubling down on Games Workshops unique blend of swords, sorcery and abject misery. In a bit of a change for Total War games however, Total War: Warhammer II is both a standalone game and an expansion pack which bolts onto the original, doubling the size of the available landmass and adding four new playable races.

Shortly after Total Warhammer 2's launch, an update will combined the original and the sequel's campaigns into a single, giant map. Players will be able to use any of the available races across the entire new landmass.

The three new playable races we know about are the much sought after Lizardmen, the High Elves, the Dark Elves, and the fourth is yet to be announced.

What's great about Total War: Warhammer 2 being a standalone expansion pack for Total War: Warhammer is that the system requirements should stay fundamentally the same. This the same core game running in the same engine, just with new factions, units, and territories. The only minor cause for concern is that combining both the games into a single giant campaign may push the system requirements up slightly, although this is unlikely to have a major impact. It's the battle maps where performance is most demanding and these will remain the same.

Can't wait to play around with a GIGANTIC map. Spread the glory of the Empire to even farther lands.

Also the fourth race is clearly Skaven, they practically spelled it out at the end of the trailer. Not to mention all of the hints and little clues they've been giving out for a while.

No idea why so many people are surprised it's a Warhammer title release and not a historical one. They have said weeks beforehand that the reveal on 31st will be limited to the warhammer franchise ONLY and that they will not divulge into anything of the other title in the making.

It was practically in every announcement - guess people just stop reading after the first 3 words.

Oh, and yes, they are working on the historical title - you can read up on that on the forums as well. No it's not the same people, it's a different group. They already have their research and general layout of the game done and are busy making the models, etc.

...purchased the first Warhammer because of the DLC'S (still waiting for that gold edition). And I still to this date play MTW2 and Shogun 2 because I love campaing's with DarthMod. I hope they could fix up those boring siege's, though.

I'm sick of this from CA. Charging more and more for expansions and DLC for games that still have issues. What was wrong with the building and character trait systems of Rome 1 and MTW 2? I want to go back to the old days...

Game development costs have gone up, for sure, but this micro DLC is just... ugh. Forget it. The good old days of getting insane generals are gone!

Rome 1 best total war game out there, too bad it won't boot up anymore, no matter what you do to it

MTW 2 had sick mods. An insane amount. But the ai was still iffy even with mods. Divide Et Impera just makes Rome 2 playable now.
