It’s something most of us had probably all just assumed, but Microsoft has at long last confirmed that Crackdown 3 will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title. This means it will also be playable on PC, alongside the Xbox One and Project Scorpio. Buy it once it digitally and you'll be able to play it on all three platforms with cross-save functionality.
Confirmation comes via the official Crackdown twitter account, which tweeted out “Crackdown 3 will indeed be a Play Anywhere title!”
From this, it seems a safe assumption to make that Crackdown 3 will be available exclusively through the Windows Store on Windows 10 PCs, and will require DirectX 12 support as a minimum.
Crackdown 3 is apparently still on track for a 2017 release according to developer Reagent Games, although things have gone eerily quiet on that front since we last saw the game back in 2015. The game was totally absent from Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference in June of last year, prompting concerns it may have run into a little trouble. We’re coming up to the midpoint of the year now so expect a major blowout on Crackdown 3 during Microsoft’s E3 showcase, including footage of the game running on Project Scorpio.
Here’s a little reminder of what you can expect from Crackdown 3, which looks like a little slice of heaven for those into destructible environments. Just about everything can be blown to smithereens, including towering 20-storey skyscrapers. It’s all to do with some mumbo jumbo about the power of the cloud apparently, but hopefully, PC users and Project Scorpio owners can render all that destruction locally.
We’ll bring you more on Crackdown 3 as soon as we hear it.
