Which Gaming Platform Has the Best Upcoming Exclusives in 2017?

Written by Jon Sutton on Mon, May 29, 2017 4:00 PM

While we can endlessly debate specs, or the merits of a mouse and keyboard, ultimately the chief reason why we game on any platform is going to be the games themselves. Games you can't play anywhere else are usually the reason you choose one platform over another, each manufacturer vying to have enough top-tier exclusives to crush the competition.

PC is a little different in this respect. On PC we get more exclusives than every other platform combined and multiplied by a factor of 10. However, they're typically lower budget releases. While plenty of them are fantastic, they're not the sorts of games plastered over the sides of buses or rolling out before the latest Star Wars movie. PC is also the natural home for anything and everything third-party. These days just about everything comes to PC alongside consoles, aside from (most of) those I've listed below.

So I've trawled around and gathered up a list of all the major exclusives coming to the big three console players (PS4, Xbox One, Switch) and PC. It's then up to you to decided which platform you believe has the best upcoming exclusives.

I've had to use some creative license for the Xbox One list, seeing as it actually has zero upcoming exclusives. I've decided to just bundle in the confirmed first party titles, but even then the list is worryingly small. Microsoft needs to have an absolutely huge E3 2017 showcase if it wants to get Project Scorpio up and running.

  • The Bard's Tale IV
  • Escape from Tarkov
  • A Hat in Time
  • Dauntless

PS4. Only good games that are exclusive to PC are Endles Space 2 and Civilisation 6. Not a big fan of online esport stuff.

Fair enough. I didn't really look at the list since it doesn't matter to me. That Ni No Kuni game looks good though.

Obviously the PS4 for me. I prefer these types of exclusives over simulators and stuff like that.

If Star Citizen actually gets released then that combined with all the other stuff will do it for me. But the PS4 has some great stuff really.

Star Citizen is absolutely not going to be released in 2017. I have no idea why it's listed here - there's a 0% chance that it happens. CIG's own projected development timeline extends past December 2017. Maybe Squadron 42 lands before year's end, but I doubt it.

I think the PS4 has the best ones for me.

Second is PC.

None of the Xbox or Nintendo games on that list peak my interest.

Over the years i have started to dislike exclusives of any kind... so the notion of exclusives is honestly quite disgusting, so fuk the exclusives !!!

Sometimes it makes sense on pc. Imagine arma 3 on console, it could run but how would layout or the keybinds. Time spent in porting the > than the revenue that would be made ( probably have to play it with mouse and keyboard on console ).

Gamepads simply don't have enough buttons to play that game :D
I am against exclusives unless it is technically impossible to port a game to another system. You can't hope to play Wii Sports on PC or Arma III on PS4 for example.

tbh is I were I'd stick with what you have and stash the money for a bigger upgrade later on, or just spend it for fun. You're pretty set for today's standards but you can always choose, if you want more cpu or gpu power just go for them

At this point, the only way to get to another level would be to upgrade your monitor to a 144hz or to a higher res (1440p), but that would require a better GPU and CPU... so as the others said - you are set for now, anything else newer added won't benefit you, unless you upgrade everything else

Its not fair for PC / Xbox one because a lot of the games are exclusive to both platforms but not coming on PS4 that did not make it to this list.

...if you think any part of Star Citizen is actually going to come out in completed form in 2017, you really, really haven't been paying attention.

True, the game is just so incredibly ambitious I'd be surprised if they'd manage to get it finished before 2019.

Yeah, the one thing everyone paying any attention to Star Citizen can agree on is that it won't be out anytime soon.

PC wins my interest.

Dauntless, Bannerlord, Star Citizen and Total Warhammer from PC.

GoW, Yakuza 6 and Kiwami from PS4.

Nothing from Switch or Xbone.
