Sound the Tolkien nerd klaxon - Middle-Earth: Shadow of War’s first story trailer is out, and it’s a humdinger. Monolith has been working backwards from the usual trailer hijinks, showing us hours of gameplay yet not a whisper of story details. It’s all been laid bare now though, showcasing Talion and Celebrimbor’s latest tale of revenge, betrayal, and absolute stoicism.

Set after the events of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, and nestled between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, Shadow of War use the New Ring to force a gigantic army in order to take on Sauron and Nazgul in a monumental battle for control of Middle-Earth.

The trailer introduces us to a mysterious woman clad in black, as well as the infamous Shelob, a Great Spider and offspring of Ungoliant. Arachnophobes take note, Shelob makes Skyrim’s spiders look like cuddly bears. It’s a bit tricky to stitch together the events of the trailer, but the woman and black and Shelob are seemingly the same beings.

In a bit of a spoiler, we also see Talion fighting Sauron himself, likely alluding to the climactic finale of the entire game. Oops.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is now out on October 10th following a brief delay from August 23rd. It’ll be available for PC (both Windows Store and Steam), PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and the upcoming Project Scorpio.

Nah it's not just you, but in their livestreams they have shown the open world, which is each different zone including the Fortress. You can explore it all, including the base, on your own, but you go into an instance if you attack it with your army.

Well, I wasn't really sold on it, but it gave me chills watching this trailer, so I'm a lot more interested in it now. I enjoyed the original Shadow of Mordor quite a lot. And even with the.."New Ring"..it looks like a lot of fun and the ideas (for the most part) fit in with LoTR's concepts of power, the abuse of power, etc. The voice acting sounds phenomenal, too.

Holy Batman, that's a lot of stuff. Fighting all Nine Nazgul, the creation of Minas Morgul, the Palantir, the flashbacks of the Second Age look like they're gunna be amazing again, look like Ungoliant too(?), and of course the missing Ent-Wives!!

CANNOT WAIT!!!
