Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown looks like big dumb fun in a way that the usually po-faced flight sims seldom are. Bandai Namco’s fighter jet action game was recently delayed until 2018, but you can keep the buzz going for its distinctly Japanese take on aerial dogfighting with Ace Combat 7’s E3 2017 trailer.

From the looks it Ace Combat 7 is F-16 by way of Metal Gear Solid, complete with ridiculously melodramatic plotlines, nonsense princesses and super advanced weaponry. It’s also looking pretty gorgeous; it’s sure to be a vomit-inducing treat in VR.

When Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown was delayed a fortnight ago into 2018. Series producer Kazutoki Kono said "The combination of the Unreal 4 Engine and the power of current generation consoles and PC hardware have literally opened the 'skies of opportunity' to us to develop the best Ace Combat experience to-date," but that additional time was needed in order to “achieve the vision.”

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is taking off in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
