And so another year of E3 begins to grind to a halt. Front-loaded as ever, E3 2017 was packed with a ridiculous number of games. We had a few returning faces joined by some spectacular game reveals. The likes of Ubisoft really stepped their game up, with all the publishers delivering us game, after game, after game. Just check out our huge list of all-new trailers and you can see exactly what I mean.

Now it's time to celebrate the very best. The games that wowed us in the respective genres. The titles we hope will scooping up game of the year gongs this year or next. Without further ado, here are the Best Games of E3 2017.

E3 2017 - Show Stoppers And Best E3 Moments 2017

Best Action - Monster Hunter World

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Monster Hunter has always been a series which has been stuck in its ways. Over the years it's gained a huge following, yet it's never strayed too far from the tried and test formula. Monster Hunter World changes all that. Not only is it also coming to PC and Xbox first the first time, but it's been radically overhauled in an all-new game engine and with lush, open lands to explore. Four-player co-op action has never looked better.

Best Shooter - Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Bethesda are doing god's work these days, along with the help of MachineGames and Id Software. Together, they are keeping top notch single-player first-person shooters alive and kicking. Wolfenstein: The New Order was fantastic, Wolfestein II: The New Colossus promises to multitudes greater. Ultra-violent, cool as hell and packed with a twisted sense of humour, the Nazis are going to wish they'd never been born.

Best Racing - The Crew 2

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

The Crew was fundamentally underwhelming at launch. Here was this vast, incredible open-world rendition of the United States, filled some tedious racing. Many updates later it became the game we all wanted it to be. The Crew 2 builds on this, adding some off-the-wall racing disciplines such as planes, boats and off-road buggies.

Best RPG - Vampyr

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

E3 2017 was suspiciously light on RPGs, but Vampyr is a game capable of standing out in any year. Dontnod earned deserved plaudits for Life is Strange, and hype is understandably high for their far darker follow-up. Vampyr is the morally ambiguous tale of a renowned war surgeon-turned-vampire, prowling the streets of 1918 London during the outbreak of the Spanish Flu epidemic. Good people will have to die so that you may live.

Best Sequel - Far Cry 5

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Far Cry ran into a bit of a creative dead end with Primal, despite the shift to prehistory. Far Cry 5 is looking to get the series back on track with a controversial tale of a hillbilly Christian cult in the mountains of Montana. The big takeaway from E3 was just how exceptional the co-op could be, with two players free to explore the entire open-world together. Double the people, double the mayhem.

Best Sports - Madden 18

Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Madden has long been the undisputed champion of American Football games, yet Madden 18 sees EA Sports lean havily into the story mode which worked so well if FIFA 17. Madden 18's 'Longshot' mode is RPG-lite for sports fans, and should be the perfect way for newbies to the sport to pick up Madden and learn the ropes.

Best Strategy - Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

Well, well, well, who'd have thought it. Mario + Rabbids sounds like a match concocted in the firiest pits of hell, direct from Satan's anus. Somehow, some way, Ubisoft and Nintendo seem to have managed the impossible. In a koopa shell, this is Mario XCOM, cramming in some of the most eventive turn-based tactics we've seen in a long while. Devastating moves can be chained together, paired with a deep progression system and advanced tactics. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle has turned out to be the unsung hero of E3 2017.

Best Sci-Fi - Anthem

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Ok, so Anthem represents a major departure for BioWare. For a while now we've seen them steadily drift away from the purer RPG stylings which helped them make their name, and with Anthem, they're finally going almost pure action. Easily one of the best looking games on show at E3 2017, Anthem's primaeval world was full of strange beasts, lush jungle and pockets of oases. There's heaps we don't know about Anthem just yet, but the basis of the gameplay reveal, it could well be every sci-fi fan's dream.

Best Indie - The Last Night

Platforms: PC, Xbox One

I mean, just look at its absolute spellbounding artstyle. The Last Night is some frankly ridiculous 3D pixel art fused with a Blade Runner-esque noir aesthetic. A cinematic platformer in the vein of Another World, the Last Night is a sci-fi thriller set in a post-cyberpunk world.

Best New IP - Skull and Bones

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Ubisoft's pirate-themed game has been in the offing for years now. Up until now we didn't what shape this would take, however. Skull and Bones looks to built on the foundations laid by Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, tasking players with helming a pirate ship in pitched naval battles. The core focus of Skull and Bones appears to be the 5v5 PvP, with deep ship customisation and monsters lurking in the deep. With any luck it's supplemented by a better single-player campaign than the limp effort shown with For Honor.

Best Multiplayer - A Way Out

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Despite online gaming meaning co-op play has never been easier to achieve, it's still a criminally underrepresented sub-genre. The EA-published A Way Out looks to change all that. A prison break game playable exclusively in split-screen co-op mode, you and a buddy must work together to break out of your tiny cell and embark on an epic runaway across the US. The big takeaway from the Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is their aim for every segment of the game to present unique, non-repeated game mechanics which require co-operation to overcome.

Best PC Game - Total War: Warhammer 2

Platforms: PC

Love it or hate, Creative Assembly's foray into fantasy with a take on Games Workshop's Warhammer has been a monstrous success. Just over a year since the release of the original, Total War: Warhammer 2 is on our doorsteps, a bolt-on sequel that adds a whole new continent, four new playable races and a totally revamped end-game. Hundreds of hours have been spend on this already here at GD, and we expect this to make it hundreds more.

Finally, big congratulations to all of our winners, who've served up some fine gaming treats that will hopefully be with us in the next year or two!

Skull and Bones looks more like a copy pasted from AC4 only with ship battle. Intended for AC4 multiplayer game mode would look like I suppose

Not just graphics, the Gran Turismo series is the standard for racing sims and has been for almost two decades. The UI, the gameplay, the tracks, the sound and music and the car feel are all stellar usually.

Is it just me, or have they made Wolfenstein TNC too Doom-like ?

Wolfenstein was always a Doom type of game with a retro sci-fi theme.the only difference in gameplay i can tell is that Wolfenstein contains the stealth element and more humanly atmosphere while Doom is all about shooting daemons in space.
they said that TNC will have more stealth and more tactical with the ability to equip scopes and suppressors to weapons so that makes it less Doom-ish i guess

Not on the list where it belongs. I really like LOTR but i don't think shadow of war(the game i think you mean) is a better game above the others noted on the list.

Shadow of War kind of seems like a known quantity at this point, and we didn't really learn a great deal more about it at E3. If it was revealed at E3, possibly a different story.
