And it's that time of year again. I can't believe it's been six months since I was chugging down gin and tonics down a dodgy boozer, ushering in new year. We've reached the halfway point of 2017, and what a year it's shaping up to be for gaming. When we did this same Up For Debate at this point last year it was a fairly strong offering, but H1 2017 has just blown that away. Things have cooled lately, but that first four months was an absolute blitzkrieg of games sure to trouble the Game of the Year category during the Global Game Awards 2017.
We've had a frankly ridiculous smorgasbord of hits, including a reinvention of survival horror with Resident Evil, one of the greatest sci-fi tales ever in Nier Automata, Zelda finally going truly open world, and we hired a turkey to run our real estate business in Yakuza Zero. The choices have literally been endless.
Apologies also if you're favourite game didn't make it. I've tried to be as thorough as possible but obviously not every game can make it into the poll. Do be sure to let everyone know what game it is in the comments section below though.
As for the poll, you've got three votes with which to pick your favourite three games of 2017. Oh and don't worry, I've resisted putting in Rocket League and R6: Siege, the real best games of 2017.

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam all the day!!1 :P

I voted for Nier and Resident Evil 7 since even before playing them, I know they guaranteed mastahpeeces. The oddball game I chose was The Surge, I was weirdly interested in it ever since the first trailer and I gotta say, the final product was quite alright. I really lower my expectations for any game I'm remotely interested in. I guess that's how you gotta be for games in this day and age. Never know which game may disappoint :cough cough: Mass Effect

Zelda, Automata, or Persona 5. Tekken 7 butchered the b! system in my opinion and the movement on PS4 even with a stick feels "behind".
Resident Evil 7 was much too short despite being a great game. Yakuza Zero was great, but I always have found myself mashing X to skip dialogue, even in the first playthrough. Maybe Berseria is up there, haven't played a Tales game since Symphonia though despite myself massively enjoying that as a kid.

Last days of the steam sale, might be using this list as justification.
PC Specs
Outlast 2, Resident Evil 7 and Little Nightmares so far. (:
...and just started Hollow Knight. Looks really promising.
PC Specs
Wish there was a little more love for Rime :(
PC Specs
It really didn't make a splash did it? I think it looks cool but a bit too pricey. £20 day one and I'd have been in.
PC Specs
Person 5 or Nier: Automata. PS4 realy got its **** together :)
PC Specs
Where is PUBG? lol
PC Specs
lol good one
PC Specs
Sorry, I should've explained, they need to be finished ;)
PC Specs
nier hands down
could not move on for days after i finished.
PC Specs
I played the first campaign only and it really touched me, my best game of 2017 without a doubt but sadly I don't have enough time to play the other two campaigns but definitely will try to finish them later.
PC Specs
YO.. you mean you just finished 1st playthrough? and even got "touched" by it?
thats nothing! oh ****.
i suggest you finish the whole thing, the first playthrough is nothing compared to whats coming.
PC Specs
Yup that's true. The main climax is the 3rd play through in which everything is explained.
PC Specs
And don't forget the 5th ending, which comes right after the 4th playthrough. I would've drowned in my own tears if not for it xD
PC Specs
I only voted for two one was bayonetta since they finally brought it over to PC and two was Resident Evil 7 which is what I am playing right now and i'm enjoying it
PC Specs
nioh and persona 5 easily the final fantasy 14 expansion is also pretty legit
PC Specs
Nier: Automata for me
You guys ever feel depressing over a game's story while looking at some android's asses, me neither
10/10 would play again
PC Specs
So far I've played Hollow Knight, which is absolute masterpiece, and Rising Storm 2 : Vietnam, which is also an amazing game.
I've been thinking to get my hands on Steel Division because I love strategy games, especially the Wargame series, and I'll have to play Sexy Brutale, Pray, Nier and Dirt 4 eventually.
Other than The Surge and maybe Sniper Elite 4, I'm not really that interested in other games on this list.

Hollow Knight: A MASTAPIECE, for your wallet!
PC Specs
oh we have a fellow dunkey fan here

i must recommend SDN44 its a very good RTS and thats coming from a person who cherry picks the living s*it out of RTS games xD The map is very very good designed but i hate some things like the Jumbo Shermans having the same armor as the King Tigers
PC Specs
It's not everyone's cup of tea but i really enjoyed "What Remains of Edith Finch" because i can just sit down and experience a story :D.
PC Specs
I loved the game and how each room was vastly different in style. :D
PC Specs
It's a very well made game with an immersive story and each room pulls you in more and more.
PC Specs
The only games I played on this list were F13, Outlast 2, and Resident Evil 7... all were trash. I think 2017 has been the worse year yet for exciting title releases.
PC Specs
lol I haven't played any of these games,I'd like to get Nier and Nioh though
PC Specs
Damn Nier: Automata is cleaning up! As much as I loved the game, I've got to give it to Persona 5 so far this year.
PC Specs
Tales of Berseria, Tekken 7 and NieR Automata for me. though NieR Automata sucks on PC i think the console version deems it good. Berseria is a gem of an JRPG franchise which i entered through Tales of Zestiria. Tekken 7 was a completely new franchise for me and it took me some time to get wht the story and the fights are. anyways looking forward to Assassins Creed Origins and the new NFS(which i hope would be good).
PC Specs
A toss up between Numenera and Breath of the Wild for me. Two games I've been looking forward to for a long time, and neither disappointed.
PC Specs
i actually only played the demo of nier automata on ps4
while it seemed to be good
i dont know if i actually gonna buy it
depends on the lenght of the game
and half of the beta was sidescrolling combat like old metroid
also demo seemed to kill the player which feels like i read the end of a book first :C
would like to read from you guys how you liked it and if the demo is in the actual game when does it take place
PC Specs
Took me 35h to beat. Best game I've played since Mount & Blade: Warband.
Would be easier to recommend if we knew what kind of games you like.
