If you didn’t manage to squeeze into Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s closed alpha then help is hand - EA has announced the open beta for Star Wars Battlefront II will be jumping to warp speed from October 6th, running through until October 9th.

“We've heard you loud and clear: you want to try your hand at epic encounters with iconic heroes, massive battles across detailed landscapes, and thrilling dogfights in space. You want to play Star Wars Battlefront II,” says EA, rather assumingly.

Should you be brave/foolish enough to slap down the cash for a pre-order, you can, of course, gain access on the earlier date of October 4th. This gives you two days extra play over those other chumps who aren’t willing to gamble £55. I’m going out on a limb here, but I can almost guarantee there isn’t enough content in this beta to keep you playing for three days, let alone five, so keep that in mind.

As for what you’ll get to play during the beta, it sounds as if it’s going to be pretty much the same as the closed alpha. It’ll include the Naboo: Theed map in Galactic Assault. Teams of Republic clone troopers and Separatist battle droids are fighting for control of the royal palace, with the droids trying to escort a ship down the city streets.

In addition to this, players will also get their first taste of the Starfighter Assault battle mode, which sounds like some form of dogfighting spin-off, a la the original Battlefront.

EA is obviously pretty keen for players to pre-order Star Wars: Battlefront 2, and it gave me a little giggle to see they were touting that “in addition to early beta access, you'll get bonus content including Yoda's Epic Lightsaber Mastery Star Card, which is only available while supplies last until October 9, 2017.” Ah, the pesky limited supplies of a fake digital item, such a pain to manufacture enough.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is out on November 17th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Don't pre-order. Wait a few days to a few weeks after release. You gain nothing but will possibly lose if you pre-order.

I will personally slaughter everyone who considers pre ordering this BS. I can already imagine how horrible it will perform and that it will barely get optimized because of pre order sales. Do not pre order people, think about others.

Have you played the alpha? It was optimized pretty well, at least the Theed map. I was running it on Ultra with pretty constant 60 fps.

I can Pre-Order a physical copy for 43 euros from a legit store in my country, and I'm pretty sure I can run it on High Settings no AA with stable 60 fps. I think it's a good deal.

Early access to the game = early cash splash, in this case it seems fair tbh.. paying early to get into the game early and all that. With that being said I will still wait a month or two for a sale, I'll never pre-order
