Bethesda’s just dropped a suitably horrific new trailer for The Evil Within 2. Dubbed ‘Survive’, it’s all about relentlessly drilling a single point into your head - it’s all your fault that your daughter’s missing. Enemy design is on point, as ever, including that horrific stalking creature with a camera for a face, along with the drooping monstrosity at 1:29 that looks plucked straight out of the depths of Bloodborne’s more depraved creations.

Once again, The Evil Within 2 looks to be running down the Resident Evil 4 school of thought than the more traditional form of survival horror. There’s plenty of combat and gunplay, but resources are likely to be scarce and the enemies powerful. Players can opt to go the stealthy route and lay traps, sneaking around threats, or go in all guns blazing and burn through the ammo. It looks as if the unbeatable chase enemies are also set to make a return. They were always enough to make me squeal, Shinji knows exactly how terrifying it is to be chased.

“It’s a race against time for Sebastian as he fights to survive and find Lily before she’s lost forever in a crumbling STEM world,” explains MachineGames. “As he searches, he is haunted by the ghosts of his past and his own insecurities, but he never loses hope. Determined to save Lily, Sebastian will travel to the depths of this new STEM world and face off against anything it throws at him.”

Interestingly we’ve also got what I believe is the first confirmation of side quests in The Evil Within 2. Reading into things a little, it sounds as if the city in The Evil Within 2 may be pseudo open-world, set in the city of Union, with missions and quests branching off into the various levels. That’s all a bit speculative though, so we’ll have to wait and see what Tango Gameworks’ plans are on that front.

The Evil Within 2 is out, appropriately enough, on Friday, October 13th, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
