Just Cause 3’s officially endorsed multiplayer mod has just launched on Steam, throwing hundreds of players together to induce even more carnage. Thinking about what just one Rico Rodriguez can do to a poor island nation, the prospect of hundreds doing this simultaneously is tantamount to nuclear armageddon.

The multiplayer mod is still in a fairly early form, but the Nanos development team reckon it’s fit for public consumption now. It provides players with a massive toolset of rules to tweak, allowing for team Deathmatch, Free Roam, Custom Races, Skydiving contents, and just about anything else you can think of. Doing all of this with potentially hundreds of players and not being an absolute mess is a worry, but they claim they’ve got “State-of-the-art synchronisation helps reduce lag to a minimum.”

There are a few hundred players in there already so it should have a fairly active community for those just looking to mess around online in Just Cause 3. It’s even got Steam achievements on the way which is a nice touch.

Should you want to give Just Cause 3 Multiplayer a go, it is totally free of charge and can be downloaded from its official Steam store page. The only caveat is that you will, of course, need a copy of Just Cause 3 in order to play.
