The results are in. You've been ranking the entire Assassin's Creed series from best to worst and the results are in. Here we have the definitive list of the best Assassin's Creed games as vote for by the GD community. Your winner, and the best starting point for players new to Assassin's Creed is...

Assassin's Creed 2! It was a close run thing though, narrowly pipping Assassin's Creed IV by just a handful of points. For those light on time, the best time to jump into Assassin's Creed looks to be the Ezio trilogy - Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed Revelations.

To get these results I simply weighted each first place vote as nine points, second was eight points, third was seven points, etc etc.

  1. Assassin's Creed 2
  2. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
  3. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
  4. Assassin's Creed: Revelations
  5. Assassin's Creed 3
  6. Assassin's Creed
  7. Assassin's Creed Syndicate
  8. Assassin's Creed Rogue
  9. Assassin's Creed Unity

One of the biggest conclusions we can draw from this is that Assassin's Creed has really fallen off the bandwagon lately. That, or not many people have played the new ones, as it's a struggle to comprehend Syndicate sitting so low based on its own merit. Regardless, Ubisoft's got its work cut out if it wants to get the series back to its glory days with Assassin's Creed Origins. I wonder where that would rank if we did this same survey next year? Get your predictions in below.

Here's the vote breakdown per game, just click it to enlarge. To the 31 mad people that think the original Assassin's Creed is the best in the series, I salute you. You join an illustrious club alongside the 56 claiming AC: Syndicate is the worst the franchise has to offer.

Original Story: 31-08-2017 - For newcomers to gaming, getting started on some of the industry's most beloved franchises can be a daunting prospect. Even with the likes of Assassin's Creed, which is a comparative youngster at 10-years-old, there are heaps of games, sequels, spin-offs and the like. We're going to drill down through all that with the help of you - the GD community. Together we're going to rank the Assassin's Creed series from best to worst, highlighting the games from this series which are most worth and gamers' time.

All you need to do is use the form below to rank them from best to worst. There's no login required or anything so it's pretty much as straightforward as our usual polls. If you haven't played a game, just leave its row blank.

At the end, you'll get a readout of the community results up to that point, and when the poll closes we will update this article with the final result - the definitive GD community list of the best Assassin's Creed games.

My Picks:

Sadly I haven't played all of them, so two haven't made the cut. It would be great if you would let me know below where you would personally place Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Revelations, both of which passed me by.

  1. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
  2. Assassin's Creed Syndicate
  3. Assassin's Creed Rogue
  4. Assassin's Creed III
  5. Assassin's Creed II
  6. Assassin's Creed Unity
  7. Assassin's Creed

Unranked

  • Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
  • Assassin's Creed: Revelations

I won’t argue my case for all of these but suffice to say Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was a major high point in the series for me. The naval combat was elevated from AC3, and actually island hopping was a joy. Hopping off the boat and paddling to a deserted shore never got old for me, and it was the Assassin’s Creed game that most encapsulated a feeling of adventure.

Bizarrely for a franchise called Assassin’s Creed, I’ve always found the stealth and assassinations themselves the worst aspect. This is the same publisher that brought us Splinter Cell yet it really couldn’t deliver that tight gameplay on an open-world stage. Nowhere was this more apparent than the original Assassin’s Creed. We’re fortunate the original actually shifted a fair amount of copies because it was a bad, bad game, although one that demonstrated great promise. Hugely repetitive, it wasn’t long until all I wanted to was just blast through the nine or so main targets and reach the end. This basically all boiled down to dropping on some poor sap’s head and stabbing them a bit. Thankfully, the only way was up from here.

Syndicate’s a tricky one because as an iterative game it’s not that special, but taken on its own I believe it’s one of the strongest Assassin’s Creed entries. I was never particularly enamoured with AC2, which just felt like a better version of the original. Slightly less repetitive and more responsive controls but the gameplay beats were overly familiar. Right direction, but not enough for me. Because of this, I skipped the two pseudo-sequels, Brotherhood, and Revelations.

As for why Assassin’s Creed 3 is so high, well, I absolutely adored its world. It took a long while to get going but I was happy padding through the snow. The ship combat was also refreshing, although the whole package can retrospectively be seen as the test bed for the eventual Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the masterpiece of the series.

Anyway, over to you now. Remember to vote in the form near the top of this and let us know your reasons below!

I am a big fan of AC1 just because of Altair-Ibn-La-Ahad, That guy was awesome. I know people like Ezio more as they have seen the maximum part of his life in those 3 games, but they would have loved Altair more, if Ubisoft would have developed a few more titles with him (Explaining more of his struggles).

Black Flag was interesting at first, but got dull in every aspect a few hours in. Became so dull in fact that I went on to listen Baldrick's poems while stabbing my neck with a bayonet

Why is everyone rating Unity so low...? I loved the game so bad and I still launch it from time to time to walk across the beautiful and living streets.
Even the story was great imo, despite being sort of a personal vendetta.

The whole naval part of black flag is great but everything else felt a bit lacking.

For me it's one of the worst ones 90% of the main missions are tailing dudes while the other 10% are spent tailing a ship with your ship. Sure it has some moments like fighting the giant ships but i found it to be too boring overall.
