Despite No Mans Sky's frosty launch, Hello Games is intent on improving their game. Influenced by gamer feedback, the latest patch fixes graphical user interface issues as well as general tweaks to make the experience a better. The most pressing issue that was fixed was the problem of the save file becoming enormous. This patch will shrink its size so you don't have to worry about visiting multiple portals.

Hello Games has published a pretty big No Mans Sky changelog for this new 1.34 patch. I am going to dissect the improvements into parts so our lovely GD'ers can digest them more easily.

General:

  • Prevented players being able to edit terrain outside their base radius for free while standing inside their base
  • Fixed responses made to Artemis and Apollo at times being incorrectly tracked
  • Prevented players being blocked from progressing if they decline to enter glyphs into a particular story portal
  • Fixed instances where Atlas text was appearing as though it came from an NPC
  • Fixed FoV in photo mode showing degrees as a temperature
  • The discovery screen will now show images from a larger number of visited waypoints
  • Added a placeholder image in cases where a waypoint image is not available
  • Allowed scrolling of names on the discovery page which are too long to be displayed
  • Improved appearance of the message displayed when your starship is out of range
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused glyphs not to be awarded correctly
  • Fixed an issue in tutorial messaging when you repair your pulse drive but nothing else before entering your ship
  • Added the amount of units you will earn for a discovery to the Analysis Visor interface

Performance Improvements:

  • Fixed an issue when claiming a new base location (which caused base NPCs to stop responding)
  • Fixed an issue where large numbers of portal visits would be added to save files, greatly increasing the save size and impeding the ability to save the game. We’re aware there are still some players experiencing this issue, and we’re currently investigating any remaining reports.
  • Increased maximum number of paths which can be rendered in the galactic map

Graphical Improvements/GUI:

  • Prevented the terrain editor draining in charge when editing empty voxels
  • Fixed FoV in photo mode showing degrees as a temperature
  • Fixed a graphical issue where a blur effect would be applied while teleporting
  • Improved appearance of the message displayed when your starship is out of range
  • Fixed warning symbol on broken tech appearing too small
  • Improved ordering of icons on the galactic map to more accurately indicate missions and system information
  • Added correct emotion animations for various interactions with NPCs

The No Mans Sky patch should be with you by now if you have the game but more importantly, is this the sort of commitment that will make you return to play No Mans Sky or even pick it up new?

Our favourite comments:

1.35 is already on steam beta testing - you can access it by code: 3xperimental by going to game properties -> betas

I wish that they would roll out an optimization patch next so that I can maybe play it.

Your 780M SLI GPU-S have problems running the game?

Yes... The game did supposedly support SLI once upon a time, but one of the past game patches broke it and Hello Games has never gotten with nVidia to sort out the problem in a nVidia driver update. So I am stuck using only one card. Even the one card should be able to run it okay because at least it is well above the minimum, but it doesn't. I get crap performance no matter what settings I use, and the ground textures never load even though I have a 4GB card running at 1080p. It is just crazy... I will probably just wait until I have a new system before trying to play it again. :(

Oh and I have my 780M cards overclocked. They are holding 912MHz on the core clock (stock boost clock was 797MHz) and 1350MHz on the memory (stock was 1250MHz) without getting hot enough to throttle. If I go any higher they will start throttling. I also have my CPU holding a stable 3.997GHz on all 8 threads. So I don't think that the game should run so poorly for me.

I've reed a couple of months back, that you overclocked your laptop and have great fps on most games.
This might sound strange, but have you considered msg Hello Games your problem?

I have messaged them, but never got a response. The game is in my library though so I will get to play it eventually when I get a new laptop with newer and more powerful hardware.

I bought this game the last time it was on sale just after that last big patch was released and the performance/optimization was awful. I uninstalled it withing 48 hours of trying to get the game to run properly. Total waste of time and money. Do not buy this game unless you have a new PC with a high end graphics card that far exceeds the recommended requirement.
