Having delayed the game to accommodate the new console versions, we’re at long last approaching the launch of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Warhorse Studios open-world RPG is a much serious take on the genre than we’re perhaps used to, rooted in gritty realism and historical accuracy. It looks to be a breath of fresh air in a field dominated by dwarves and kobolds, and this bleeds through to the authentic combat system being put together for Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

In a new behind-the-scenes video we see creative director Daniel Vavra and lead designer Viktor Bocan delve into the combat system of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. “The system offers a variety of weapons, attacks, counters and moves during the intense fights within the game,” they say. “When designing the combat, the goal was to create an immersive, sophisticated melee system that is intuitive and accessible at the same time - the result is an outstanding and realistic fighting experience!”

I love how genuinely obsessive the Warhorse team members are at delivering a realistic and historically authentic RPG. The combat system can look a little rough in places but you can see there’s been an immense amount of thought put into making the fighting as real as possible, even if does come at the expense of the Arkham-style fluid combat we’ve grown used to from most titles.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is due to launch on February 13th, 2018, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
