On the grand list of things that probably don’t need doing, a remaster of Neverwinter Nights is probably right up there. Not that the original’s bad of course, it’s a classic, but a simple resolution bump does little to cover up an early 3D RPG’s graphical blemishes. Time has not been kind to Neverwinter Nights in the same manner that it has to the classic Infinity Engine games like Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale.

Still, Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition promises to be an improvement on what’s gone before. It’s from the reliable hands of Beamdog once more, a Canadian developer formed from ex-Bioware staff.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition is a remastered version of Bioware's classic RPG, which was the first to be built in the full 3D Aurora Engine after years of work with the isometric Infinity Engine. The Enhanced Edition of Neverwinter Nights adds support for 4K resolution, enhanced graphics options (pixel shaders, post-processing effects and depth of field options) and backwards compatibility with all of the original mods, modules and game saves of Neverwinter Nights. That last point, in particular, is a big bonus, meaning there are literally thousands of mods out there to be played from day one.

Beamdog hasn’t provided a release date for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition but it seems as if it’s going to be launching pretty soon. Pre-orders are going live later today so we envisage a launch within the next month or so.

I have to heartily disagree with you hear. Since Beamdog first started this with BG, there have been MANY people asking for a modern version of Neverwinter Nights. The game still has an active community, not the largest, but incredibly dedicated to it.

Hordes was Bioware's last masterpiece, and it'll be good to see it given the enhanced treatment. Even if they only iron out the last few bugs.

NWN1 is among some others at the top of my favourite games. I will definitely buy this. I replay it every now and then. Really love the HotU expansion.

It looks like a great deal with the extra campaigns being thrown in and 4K, mod support and so on.
