Warhammer veterans Slitherine Games have announced a brand new 40K title - Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War, a 4X strategy game set in the grimdark world of Space Marines, Necrons and chainsaw fetishes.

From the looks of it, W40K: Gladius - Relics of War is your typical 4X fare but wrapped up in a Warhammer package. Set in the obligatory gothic far-flung future, four competing factions are battling for control over a planet’s limited resources. Players can pick between the Space Marines, Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard), Orks and Necrons, each with unique units and gameplay mechanics. From the sounds of things, they’ll each have dedicated story campaigns, including a fresh narrative concerning ancient artefacts and the discovery of secrets held deep within the planet.

“In Warhammer 40,000: Gladius there is also a massive difference between playing solo or in multiplayer” explains Slitherine. “The deep storyline was created from scratch to allow players to explore an entire world and lead the expansion of an empire from the ground up. The discovery of ancient artefacts and the custom-crafted quests will reveal the secrets of the planet and its mysterious history as the story progresses.”

Multiplayer seems to stray significantly from single-player in that it’s going to be running in real-time against live opponents, rather than turn-based.

Slitherine has said Warhammer 40K: Gladius - Relics of War will be coming to PC at some point in 2018.
