City builders are ten-a-penny throughout PC gaming history, but Haemimont and Paradox's Surviving Mars is a little different. As you've probably guessed, Surviving Mars is set on the Red Planet, where one of the first human colonies is being built. Players will have to manage everything from oxygen management to land cultivation on a planet that is much harsher than Earth. Don't just blast off into space willy-nilly though, here are the official Surviving Mars system requirements.

Surviving Mars Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33 GHz or AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz
  • RAM: 4 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 1GB Video Memory
  • GPU: GeForce GT 620, Intel HD Graphics 4000 or Radeon HD 6450
  • HDD: 10GB Available Hard Drive Space
  • DX: DirectX 11

Surviving Mars Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5 GHz or AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 4 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: GeForce GTX GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 290
  • HDD: 10GB Available Hard Drive Space
  • DX: DirectX 11

It should be said that the minimum and recommended CPUs for Surviving Mars are just based off of Haemimont's recommendation for "dual-core CPUs" and "fast quad-core CPUs" respectively, so they may differ between now and launch. That said, considering the generally very low-end minimum specs we don't see many people having trouble running Surviving Mars, provided they're willing to sacrifice the resolution.

Everything else is pretty par for the course, although the recommended GPUs sit more in line with the AAA average than they do for what is a fairly straightforward strategy/management title graphically. While you'll be building colonies on Mars, their size and scope is nowhere the complexity of a Cities: Skylines or Planet Coaster. To that end, a GeForce GTX 970 or a Radeon R9 290 seem a bit overkill so we're hoping Surviving Mars can be maxed out with a GeForce GTX 950 or something around that mark.

As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run the Surviving Mars System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Surviving Mars GPU benchmark chart and we also have a Surviving Mars Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.

If this is anything like Cities Skyline when comes to colony/city size then CPU power is key.
