Yesterday evening Ubisoft announced a trio of delays to investors. Far Cry 5 is the first to slip. Originally planned for February 27th, 2018, we’ll now have to wait until March 27th until we can go hillbilly bashing. The Crew 2 has suffered a deeper blow though, moving from March 16th to an undisclosed date in the first half of the fiscal year 2018-19, which runs from April through to September 2018. Lastly, a third game which hasn’t even been announced yet has been shunted back to the fiscal year 2019-20.

“This decision is in line with our strategic vision of developing even more engaging and higher quality experiences for gamers,” explains Christine Burgess-Quémard, Ubisoft’s worldwide studios executive director. “Taking more time with Assassin’s Creed Origins enabled our talented development team to fully express their creative vision. As expected, this had a very positive impact on the game’s quality and largely participated to its commercial success. Taking a similar approach, we have decided to invest additional development time in three upcoming games.”

It seems like a sensible approach, backed up by some mighty sales targets for the next couple of years. I think of particular interest here though is where Ubisoft says “In addition, one of the three unannounced franchise games initially planned for release in Fiscal 2018-19 now will be released in Fiscal 2019-20.”

Initially, Ubisoft planned to release three further games in the coming year (on top of Far Cry 5 and The Crew 2) but has since scaled this down to two. One of these three games is guaranteed to be Just Dance 2019. The other two are probably going to be any two of Assassin’s Creed Origins 2, Watch Dogs 3 or The Division 2. In all likelihood, one of these three games is going to make its launch date in FY2018, another has been delayed, while the other doesn’t even exist.

A small delay for Far Cry 5 then, and a bigger one for The Crew 2, as Ubisoft reshuffles the pack for 2018. What do you think are the other three franchise games it planned to launch in 2018? Which has been delayed? Let us know your thoughts!
