We’re barrelling towards a very quiet time of the year for gaming news, yet Bandai Namco has still seen fit to throw us a bone with a brand spanking new trailer for Code Vein. It’s anime as heck, so it won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but the Dark Souls lineage still manages to shine through.
“In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has caused the collapse of the world as we know it,” explains Bandai Namco, if you couldn’t extract any sense from the frenetic trailer. “Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood.”
It’s a suitably bloody trailer, which is probably what you should expect from a game that’s all about absorbing blood in order to become more powerful. It’s all a bit vampiric sounding, which ties in nicely to Code Vein’s ‘Prepare to Dine’ strapline.
With the absence of FromSoft (barring last week’s brief tease), Code Vein could be as good as it gets for hack and slash fans next year.
Code Vein is coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018.
