PC Gaming Peripheral Maker Mad Catz is Back in Business 9 Months After Filing for Bankruptcy

Written by Neil Soutter on Sat, Jan 6, 2018 12:01 PM

Mad Catz is swiftly earning itself the title of Nosferatu of the gaming world. The gaming peripheral manufacturer took a bullet to the head nine months ago, and yet here we are, in 2018, and Mad Catz is back.

We don’t know how or indeed why it happened, but after filing for bankruptcy in March 2017, Mad Catz has struck a deal and is now under new management and “with new ideas and new attitude.”

Mad Catz suffered heavily when it went all-in on Rock Band 4 and its assorted instruments, a game which never really hit the heights of its predecessors. On its return, the focus appears to be squarely on PC gaming peripherals though, and it’s back with R.A.T. mice, S.T.R.I.K.E. keyboards, F.R.E.Q. gaming headsets and G.L.I.D.E. gaming surfaces - a mousemat to you and I.

“We couldn’t be more excited than to begin 2018 by announcing the return of Mad Catz to the global gaming arena. Mad Catz has been a permanent fixture in gaming for almost three decades and we firmly believe it’s best days lie ahead,” said Selena Chang, director of sales and operations for Mad Catz. “Through listening to gamers worldwide, we plan to once again forge a path of innovation in the gaming hardware community, and we’re already working on delivering products which we believe will enhance gamers’ abilities and do justice to the Mad Catz name. We can’t wait to unveil a little more at CES 2018 and in the months to come."

Welcome back Mad Catz, we can’t wait to see whatever crackpot ideas you come up with next.

I'm happy that they are back, Mad Catz made my favorite 3rd party PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360 controller.

I'm happy they're back as well, I remember them most for the cheap, but decent arcade sticks..... Although I have no personal experience with them(I rolled my own arcade sticks from components off Ebay), they looked great, and should be more than fine for anyone into light arcade emulation or the whole fighting game scene.

My Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3 controller from them are arguably as good as and even better than the OGs from Microsoft and Sony, with the only minus is that they do NOT use rechargeable batteries for the PS3 controller, instead it has a Xbox 360 controller's tumor on the back, but the L2 and R2 are amazing, along with everything else.
