It seems Weappy Studio’s police management oddity This Is the Police managed to do well enough to justify a sequel. This Is the Police 2 shifts the action to the snowy town of Sharpwood for more noir drama pondering.
“It's a rough, cold place, where inhabitants know their neighbors by name and faithfully keep to their traditions, no matter how barbaric those traditions might be,” says THQ Nordic. “Smugglers, gangs, and screaming populists have made this town their home. Despair grows like a cancer, hand in hand with violence.”
Actually pinning This Is the Police 2 down to a genre is a tricky prospect that even Weappy struggles with, but it boils down to a blend of strategy, management, visual novel and simulation elements, all attempting to portray the complex reality of running a police force and trying to operate within the confines of the law. Weappy’s plan is to strengthen the the tactical and strategic decisions afforded to the player in order to bolster the depth.
It’s all giving me some Fargo vibes, what with the snowbound town and the criminality which seems to run through every pore of it. The first game sort of passed me by but I have to admit I’m sort of tempted to check it out considering it’s on sale. Do let me know in the comments what you thought of it if you’ve played it!
This Is the Police 2 will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch later in 2018.
